Proposal for Kodi Settings Structure change [Updated 2015]
What happened to the some of the category names? They appear to have grown hugely in length - that's certainly not going to fit in with some languages...

All these double word labels way too long and unnecessary (im sure better and more terse single words can be found), I've looked and looked and this seems way excessive the way you "reorganised" most of these, will give the test build a run to give more detailed feedback.

Double word labels just that alone kills it for me. In any foreign language you get a huge scrolling label and you need to let it scroll to read what it says before you know if you in right place. For a change thats suppose to make it easier and simple, that alone is the kryptonite for that Superman.

That's why I suggested another level of menu's in http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=...pid1950625

Personally I'm on the fence about which is the right way to go, however I'm now leaning more towards introducing another level again. The point was made on github that we should bear in mind new media types maybe introduced such as Games, so would you add Games Files & Game Library and so on, in which case list could get long.

Yep, Parent Category (Single word labels) with all subcategories inside again single word labels also) makes sense. But you cant spend 5 minutes waiting for a whole lable to scroll before you know what it is, Ive repeated this from the beginning of this thread no not much avail I may add.

This needs some thought the whole lot, pen to paper sort of thing, because the implications on support alone are horrendous to contemplate.

My original main labels are short enough, although Media Management would be more suited as being named 'Media' or simply 'Sources'.

I think "Media" or "content" would be most fitting

How about "Display"? as it's settings for the display of content, or would that be easily confused for monitor/tv video output type settings?

Too confusing

Let's focus on structure instead of label naming. Labels can be changed at any point

Little more bikeshedding in regards to the title naming of the regional"/"international" settings section, but shouldn't this subsection be renamed to something like "Clock, Language, and Region options" or "Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options"?

Or at the very least use the term "Internationalization" or "Glocalization". Whatever, just not simple "regional" or "international" anyway as those doesn't look grammatically correct when used for a options section within settings. And I don't think that "Localization" or "Regionalization" should be used as those are noramlly used to define a smaller location or region within a country, and usually not something that applies to whole countries.

Though the section usually in turn still have subjections of its own for Region/Location, Languages/Keyboard options, and Date/Time/Clock formats. "Clock, Language, and Region" is what these type of subsections setting is called in many popular operating-systems

I dont thing progress should be held back by unnecessary pedantic literals. We live in an age where googling is a verb Smile Things evolve just as long as its in a direction of better superior things and not some mutant aberration where it becomes unrecognisable and no longer suits the given purpose.

Also this is not a OS, this is an application with limited and precious Interface real estate.

That said, often taking a page of what is done elsewhere and adapting it to the target usage is what often works best.

The more I look into this, the guise of making things simpler, I cant help but feel all the simplicity is being sacrificed. I'm always a a fan of K.I.S.S

I don't like "Content". It's a media center and not a content center
