Linux ChromeBox Kodi E-Z Setup Script (LibreELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2017/02/21]
(2015-03-22, 19:40)jhaveri Wrote: Matt: I have got into trouble, I hope you can help. After I installed the coreboot, prepared Kodibuntu usb boot disk, installed kodibuntu, and rebooted the hp chrombox, I do not see any display on the tv. The chrombox is connected by hdmi to denon avr 891, and from denon to samsung ultra hd 4k tv through hdmi from denon. Everything was fine in dual boot. When I went upstairs to my pc, I saw that wireless was working in the kodibuntu, but I could not ssh. So I disconnected chrombox, and brought it upstairs and connected to my hidef samsung monitor through hdmi. Kodibuntu boots fine, and I see display on the monitor. I took the chrombox again to denon/tv connection, and still no display. The tv briefly says resolution not supported, but upstairs monitor says it was 1920x1080. I am completely lost. Thanks for your help.

well, first thing I would try is connecting to the CB directly to your TV, and see if that works. If it does, then your receiver is causing the issue, if not, then it's the TV itself. Either way, I'd guess that you need to somehow set a fixed output resolution on boot since the automatic negotiation isn't working. That's a question for the Ubuntu forums however.

I did find the answer at the ubuntu forum. Basically, I had to uncomment the console line in /etc/default/grub, and bingo, the tv display got right on.

Thanks again Matt for pointing me to the right direction. I have left my solution here for someone who might get into the same problem. You have been a lifesaver.

Screen resolution is wrong, no matter what I do

Quick fix that often works

Maybe it will help if you edit the file /etc/default/grub, (remove #)

sudo nano /etc/default/grub

from

# Uncomment to disable graphical terminal (grub-pc only)
#GRUB_TERMINAL=console

to

# Uncomment to disable graphical terminal (grub-pc only)
GRUB_TERMINAL=console

and make it active by running

sudo update-grub

Hi guys. I've picked up a 2nd hand asus chromebox which should arrive next week. Some doubt over the model number . Is the a easy way to check ? Last update was its a mo99u but the model number changed a few times.
Also I will only use openelec for kodi on the box . What's easiest to install? Openelec alone or dual boot ? Never done anything like this before but have set up atv's , raspberry pi's etc
Thanks

model number is irrelevant (as it's just a region-specific configuration); the process/procedure is the same for all.

just do a standalone OE setup, that's by far the easiest.

So I'm in a bad place here with my Asus Chromebox..

Everything was going well until I did the firmware change and reboot - it booted via the bootloader once and began to boot from the hdd instead of the usb drive. rebooted, and now it's stuck on a blank screen with the fan spinning. Won't seem to respond to keyboard commands. recovery tool usb image isn't working either. Please advise.

Thanks for the reply. Re the model number , this one should have 4gb memory so just want to make sure that's why I want to check the model
Thanks

power off, disconnect power, wait 10s, plug back in. The recovery function/USB media isn't valid once you flash the custom firmware. Now you just need to boot a USB installer for whatever OS you want to run.

Hi Matt,

Having read a fair number of pages here, used the search function, and reading your wiki I still can't find a definite answer to a question I have.

I got Asus Chromebox installed a single boot Openelec configuration with your EZ Script (I thought it would be much more involved but it really is quite easy).

I also have Vizio soundbar that I was to use for DTS / AC3 with the Chromebox. Having read that the Chromebox doesn't do HD Audio via the HDMI the wiki does state that the Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Micro II USB Analog & Digital Audio Adapter can be used.

My question is, can the above work for DTS/DD using the passthrough option in Kodi audio options? Or to get DTS/DD would you need something like the J-Tech Digital ® Premium Quality Hdmi To Hdmi + Audio?

Any info is greatly appreciated Smile

HDMI audio works perfectly under OpenELEC (full 7.1 HD audio), so if your soundbar accepts HDMI then use that. If not, then the Turtle Beach USB will work to give you DD/DTS over SPDIF.

So this didn't work at all, what ended up working was removing the SSD, and then it booted right into my openelec install medium. hot-plugged the SSD in and could install correctly.

I've sometimes noticed it too.

If you have the RSS feed on, that uses a lot of CPU and can cause elevated temps/fan speed
