remote control will take a little bit of work to get right in Windows. (If you boot OpenElec then remote control works like any other OE-on-Intel platform)

Are there any other recommended remote controls, other than the £19.99 one at Maplin?

The Rosewill ones are the only ones I know of confirmed to do remote power on from a shutdown. Other posts in this thread suggest the official Microsoft MCE USB receiver doesn't.

Basically, one side bolts onto the 260 G1, the other to the TV/Monitor, then the plate bolted to the 260 G1 just slides down into the plate bolted to the TV and you're done - it's quick release as well, as it's held in place by gravity.

Ok, I've finally got around to using this VESA mount on a 24" monitor. This second half of this gallery shows the (upgraded) HP 260 G1 mounted on the back of a 24" monitor via a 100mm VESA mounting. The hardware used to mount the HP 260 is a two part mount, one piece fits to the monitor, the other, which slots into the first, fits to the VESA mounting on the bottom of the HP 260. I used the kit linked to in my preious post (Allcam LCD110 LCD TV Wall Mount Bracket Slim Slide In VESA 100x100).

Note: Despite some of the images on the Amazon product page showing both parts as having holes for a 100mm VESA mounting, actually only one side did and I had to drill the other with 4 holes to mount it.

Looks pretty sweet, it's a shame you had to drill more holes because for users that don't have a drill (like me) it won't be doable. Do you like it mounted? I think the HP looks nice and rather display it myself lol

What made you decide to purchase the i3 version? i'm guessing you intend to use it for more than just Kodi, otherwise it's a hell of a lot premium compared to bespoke/cashback) to get the i3 (for not much more gain in Kodi).

can I ask where you purchased the i3 and for how much?

user purchased a generic HP remote like the ones I described of "flee" bay. So worth a shot since the ones I posted are generic

that is if the box has been turned off for several hours the remote will no longer power it on,
this didn't happen when I used the keyboard to power on and only applies if mains power has still been available to the machine.
I.E. I often turn it off at the mains (I turn everything off in that room when I'm out for the day) and when I reswitch the power on the remote will work to power on but wont if I tried after several hours and hadn't turned the mains off.

I've been thinking about this and think I have come up with how HP have gotten this wake up remote thing to work.
I believe they have modified one of the USB ports with a capacitor or something, that stores power (relatively small amount), so when a keyboard is plugged in, it is live (powered on) when you press a key the unit sees it and with some more circuitry it powers on the unit.

the reason why the power on feature stops working after a few hours, for a ir remote is because unlike a keyboard that uses virtually no power on standby (waiting for an input), the ir reciever is actually using power on standby (waiting for an input) hence the power in the capacitor depletes after certain amount of time.

since these are designed to work in office enviroments, HP must have used a capacitor that stores enough power for roughly 19 hours of inactivity (finish 5pm and start 9am) with the keyboard that is supplied.

thats what I think might be happening. note I have equivalent of less than a GCSE in electronics so I could be taking out of my ass lol

I have a problem with Microsoft MCE remote...

If I understood first post correctly I should be able to turn off and on my HP G1 260 using my MCE remote (please see attached photos) but it's not working.
Receiver is not even blinking when I click Power->Shutdown in Kodi.

I used USB port on the back with the keyboard icon - red square on the jpg image.

Can someone confirm that this remote model is working in this configuration?

And, just a note that I'm using OpenELEC v6 beta.

This is the receiver everyone is using

If someone can let me know hot to post images I took some and will be happy to share.

How about £2.50 for a full set of screws and washers? small compensation for your time and the end user will also be happy with the price and guaranteed to get the right screws. you'll also have to have a bag as well as a stamp so £2.50 seems like a bargain to me..
(i'm not purchasing lol, don't have the HP260)

So, any help on upgrading the SSD?, I would prefer not to have to go down the cable root some of you have, so can I just get a bigger size SSD and simply replace? Then there's copying everything over,?

How easy is it really to upgrade the SSD on this and transer the current content?

Mike.

Mike it'll be a shame not to use the space inside the HP for a sata drive, purchase a cable, even for the future, and you can source screws from Mark142 and decepvr (both are willing to sell for a cost of a stamp), this can come handy down the line also, especially since the price of SSD is falling so fast. You can even pick up a 2TB HDD nowadays for around £50 mark

How much is the mx3 box? the fact that the HP 260 G1 comes with windows means you could re purpose it in the future, once you upgrade again.
The HP 260 G1 has really fast RAM and really fast storage and a really fast CPU (for kodi purposes).

I would recommend HP 260 G1 over anything right now in the UK, the flexibility and performance has no rivals, nothing in this price bracket (for kodi) not sure if anyones considered but I'm sure the resell value will be around (or higher) than £120 once the stock depletes. (considering the asus chromebox is £180 and this beats it hands down on everything..you could even source internal wifi etc) so in theory you get this box for free (and a very high chance you would recieve more than what you paid for it) once you factor in resell value, don't think you could say same about mx3

Just to clarify I only have spare washers (from the Maplin pack of 50), I purchased the set of screws from eBay as per MediaPi's links earlier.

Still happy to send them out, if anyone wants some.

I would have just put the 4 screws and washers in an envelope which I can get from work and post. No real cost except the stamp. Why the need for a bag?

Sorry deeper should have consulted with you first.
Sorry Mark I meant an envelope. Smile

I'm currently trying to decide between the Maplin remote, or a HP combo from ebay. Can anyone recommend either for using with OpenElec?
