Linux ChromeBox Kodi E-Z Setup Script (LibreELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2017/02/21]

Not sure what you are asking w/r/t Google Apps - they work normally under a dual boot ChromeOS setup. OpenELEC is literally just enough Linux to run Kodi, and doesn't support much besides Kodi add-ons

I am trying to install the chromium browser to be able to search the internet on the stand alone set up but it will not work. It works fine on the duel boot. Is there anything else I could try to use an internet search feature? or a workaround for the chromium browser?

I only asked about the chrome apps because I a was trying to install add blocker and it will not work .

Thanks

Search openelec forum. There is a chromium browser addon.

what does that mean? I just installed it from the OpenELEC unofficial add-ons repo, and it works fine (on 5.95.3 / VAAPI test builds)

Being on 5.0.8 I'm really far behind considering the current beta 5.95.3. Is that beta build pretty stable? Thanks for straightening things out in my head Matt.

5.0.8 IS the last Stable "Helix", Kodi 14.2. All the later ones are Kodi 15 Isengard, which hasn't been released except in betas and release candidates.

this an example of where OpenELEC releases can lag or diverge slightly from Kodi releases. Kodi has had stable releases 15.0 and 15.1, but OpenELEC 6.0 (which is based on Kodi 15.x) is still in beta (5.95.x) - likely due to the expanding number of unique hardware setups OpenELEC supports.

OpenELEC ChromeBox users who want to move to Isengard (15.x) should probably be running the latest VAAPI EGL test build, since it's based on Kodi 15.1 (vs RC2 for the mainline 5.95.3) and has better PQ and performance to boot. At some point soon it will replace the 5.95.x beta in the script.

The hold up on OE is due to a remote control problem that many users are experiencing, but the development cannot reproduce, and therefore can't fix.

However there is a beta 4 (5.95.4) due this weekend apparently. It will contain kodi 15.1.

I got Kodi installed finally ( I got stuck at the “booting from disk”. For some reason I had to switch back and forth from the Chromebox keyboard to a USB keyboard over and over to get the selection screen). I have one question. When I go to file manager I see two root windows. I’m trying to add source a shared folder. How do you add a shared folder with this setup?

this is a general Kodi setup / usage issue, and best handled (and likely already covered) in the Tips, tricks, and step by step guides forum.

Yeah well nearly the end of the weekend and no news. I really am starting to have doubts about openelec's ongoing viability. And I hate that thought.

Should I only install the files or should I also do the autostart etc, on the vaapi you linked to?

boot ChromeOS by pressing CTRL-D on the dev mod boot screen, then run the script and change the delay to 30s.

Hi All,

I've a very quick question.

I have Chrome/XBMC Gotham on a dual boot. I want to upgrade to Kodi. Is there a quick way/wiki page to do this or do I have to uninstall everything and start again?

Thanks,

Duncan
