Trick or Treat!
posted a workaround on the wiki for the high fan speed on resume from suspend on OE 5.95+. Still investigating the root cause to see if a firmware change is required, but this will do for now

So nobody else had kernel panics on boot with kernel 4.2.0-16 on Ubuntu 15.10 64bit and a Chromebox? Is anyone else running that configuration with no problems? Or do most of you guys run OpenELEC?

4.2.0 no one running kodi ever tested. OE will ship with 4.1.x and Braswell chips need 4.3.x - so I fully skipped 4.2.x on all my systems.
I upgraded all my machines to 15.10 some days ago but replaced the kernel with 4.3-rc7 right away.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Reports are that 4.3 fixes the problem. If Braswell needs it I guess Ubuntu will be shipping it out soon enough.
I elected to simply boot with my old 15.04 kernel, 3.19.0-31, which worked fine, rather than bothering with getting a mainline kernel upgrade. Just surprised that more people haven't had the same problem, which made me suspect that maybe I was doing something wrong.
