Thanks for this plug-in. It's much better than the Sky Now box which I had been using.
There seems to be a problem with the subtitles that has recently stopped working.
It seems to only affect new episodes that had been uploaded the last few days. I can verify that the subtitles do work on the Now box but doesn't work on this plugin.
Perhaps BBC are playing funny buggers again?

Thanks for reporting this. It seems that the Beeb have indeed changed the format for the subtitles. They used this different format temporarily when I was integrating subtitles in the first place. Then, it was only used on very few episodes, so I thought it was an error. It seems that they are now making bigger changes to subtitles and this indeed broke compatibility with the add-on.

I created an issue for this. Unfortunately, I won't have the time to work on this anytime soon. Unless somebody else picks it up, it will stay broken for a few weeks.

So its reproducible across platforms, and seems to be related to using Smart DNS.

Thanks for narrowing this down. So it is obviously related to geoblocking, which also means that there is nothing the add-on can do about it.

Anyways, the error message should be clearer in this situation. The reason for the index errors is simply that no streams have been found. I agree that there should also be a proper error message here.

Yes, it is a geolocation problem.
One interesting thing yo may want to look at when you have five minutes with nothing else to do :-), using the smart dns, I get full functionality on the BBC iPlayer website, including the things I can't get via this plugin when using Smart DNS.

That is very well possible. While the add-on retrieves all necessary information from the website, it actually uses different streams. The reason is quite simple: the website uses HDS-streams, which are not supported in Kodi at the moment. Thus, the add-on needs to use HLS-streams which may be hosted on different servers. There is really nothing I could or would do about this.

As far as I understand, the future of iPlayer is DASH-streams anyways. Let's hope that DASH will be supported in Kodi before the Beeb switch entirely to it.

ihurst was so kind to take a look at this and provid a fix. I managed to put out a quick release and hope that fixes the problem with subtitles. It should become available on the official repo within a couple of days.

As far as I understand, the future of iPlayer is DASH-streams anyways. Let's hope that DASH will be supported in Kodi before the Beeb switch entirely to it.

First of all, thanks to CaptainT for providing another high quality addon to let those of us outside the UK watch the BBC.

Like several others here using a DNS workaround, I couldn't get the Catch-Up content to work, it just wouldn't start. Livestreaming worked flawlessly. I then switched my DNS settings from tunlr to UnoTelly and with their settings catch-up works just fine. So without wanting to add to the confusion, to me this does not look like an issue with geoblocking or the technology used for streaming. But I might be completely wrong here...

Nanoc -- thanks for posting this. UnoTelly SmartDNS does in fact fix the catch-up problem. Plugin works 100%.

I hadn't noticed the date issue, but then I don't really look as I use the iPlayer website for program info. But the wife had complained about the Documentaries issue and up until now I hadn't thought a lot of it.

Are you able to provide an example of a programme/episode which no longer show's the date an episode was aired (which previously did). If you provide this I should be able to look into the issue further.

Are you able to provide an example of a programme/episode which no longer show's the date an episode was aired (which previously did). If you provide this I should be able to look into the issue further.

Countryfile used to have the episode dates listed for each of the programs. This is no longer the case.
