Intel VAAPI howto with Leia v18 nightly based on Ubuntu 18.04 server
Which part of the first post is not clear? Please tell me and I will fix that.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Network issue? When you pasted the log - you already had this 100% load?

Can you run:
top

then press H and screenshot again?

wasn't 100% only between 40-60.

top -H screenshot

but my sons are watching a movie right now and cpu usage is only 20-30% which is normal imho.
when movie stops and kodi will be idle for a while cpu usage will increase to 40-60%.

i'm going to post a new screenshot after the movie, ~10 mins.

I want such a screenshot when you see the high load.

top -H

i rebooted the system.
kodi was idle in the main menu.

Nope - that does not help. Turn on debuglogging, reboot - check if you see the high cpu load and then post the kodi.log and the top H output again, please.

From my reading there literally is no difference so why is everyone always passthrough paasthrough passthrough? Just curious what I don't know

If you want to listen to the Atmos soundtrack embedded in a growing number of TrueHD sound tracks you need to do the decoding in the AVR. I just invested in a new Atmos AVR and overhead speakers so bitstream is critical for me.

Ps. I only watch ripped content. No live TV.

Curious - I run the same hardware as you do - on the same OS as you do ... and have 5% load in idle - your logs don't tell anything.

Edit: I have disabled the RSS feed obviously - as that one is causing load by design.

with ubuntu 15.10 and following the installation from post 1 i can start with 1080p 60hz and get no signal when i try to switch to 2160p (30hz or 60hz)

kodi log:

(i know i have to report a kernel bug for this ...)

True-hd passthrough sync was fixed in last night build. now only dts-hd remain broken, a/v keep jumping between -1.7xx to -3.1xx.
thanks for both of you.

probably cause user newbie like me think that if there is dts or dolby flag all is ok, if avr doesn't show it something is wrong
Denon avr now shows multi ch in (correct)

@fritsch did you remember (sarcastic) that i annoyed you with handshake problem many times ?

i found a solution (no fix for me using edid hack) setting kodi gui to 60hz instead of 50hz
