Since this is a picture quality thread i hope it is ok to ask this despite that it is not about the same picture problem.
Tried searching but havent found an answer to this question, had a Nuc earlier and that i had sett to Bicubic and i can se that both SD content and 720p content looks worse on my Satv compared to my Nuc unless i enabled bilinear scaling.
Is the lack of Bicubic scaling an general android problem or a nvidia shield problem? Does Satv even have the gpu grunt to support bicubic scaling or higher?
Thank you for your awesome work, it is greatly appreciated

Very reassuring to see an acknowledgment to the problem and a possible fix coming.

Just make it public then the big discussions can begin :-)
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Unforunately the Pioneer AVR converted the RGB Limited to YCbCr 4:2:0 (no setting to change that for 4k signal) which resulted in grey color where there should have been deep black. So I had to replace it to be able to use the Shield.

I have also a problem with the black levels on the nvidia Shield TV when I connect it to the tv (LG 55EC930V 1080p) via the Pioneer av receiver VSX-930-K HDMI output.
If I connect the Nvidia Shield directly to the tv, the black levels and image are OK.
If I connect via the AV receiver, the Black levels are very bad.
Any solution?

As you are using 1080p, you can set the Video Parameter to "Pure". Then the Pioneer will send the video signal through unprocessed.
Unfortunately, this option is not available for 4K and the Pioneer hotline said, they are not planing on implementing it for 4k in their VSX line.

Could you add the variance? :-)

I hope I am not hijacking the thread, but with all the talks about "Vulkan" API, I wonder if anybody had a chance to look at the specs to see if KODI can take advantage of the features it brings?
would Vulkan allows "post-processing" similar to "vdpau", I really miss the filters my KODI x86 HTPC setup has and I wonder if we can bring them back with Vulkan.
