Beware: the quality is low for international users.

I'll try it out this evening (after the cup final) or tomorrow and let you know if I find anything

Primaeval,

Are those HD HLS streams new or were simply not offered before?

Even through their website and Iplayer, there are no options for HD live content. Only catch-up is available in HD.
Talking about going backwards...
BBC site:
I can still get 5166kbps through the website so I guess they forgot to switch those streams off,
but man what a bonehead move from them, especially when the Royal Charter is probably going to change and they will extend the license fee for Iplayer use as well!

The website uses HDS, not HLS. That is a different streaming format wihich is not supported by Kodi so the add-on cannot use it.

The announcement specifically states that HD is no longer supported for HLS, which means the add-on cannot offer it any more. It seems odd to me that the Beeb is selling this as "improvements to the video playback protocol".

We can only hope that they bring back HD in the future. Until then, it seems that live HD needs to be discontinued. I will update the first post accordingly.

I would love to dig into this a bit more, but I am traveling quite a lot at the moment. Might take two months till I get to do a thorough investigation.

Seems to me that the "Improvement" is that for each packet of data requested they get the chance to (re)verify the IP, and so break the smart DNS server solution. Possibly also gives the chance to re-validate authorization -- remember that they want to start charging for any non-over the air services.

The smart DNS solution will just have to proxy requests to the CDN for each packet. Shouldn't be a problem, but may require commercial smart DNS services to enhance their infrastructure.

There will never be a 2.0.2. However, 2.1.0 has already been submitted, but not yet merged, to the official repo. It will include everything that was in primaeval's international radio beta. No fix for live TV, though. This will be in 2.1.1 in a couple of days.

It had to be 2.1.0 as international radio is a feature.

Do you have any source for this information? Or did you do investigate yourself with Wireshark or the likes?

This would of course explain why the removed HD for now as it will cause additional overhead which may break HD streaming even for users in the UK with a borderline connection. I would expect them to make it available again once their CDNs adapted their infrastructure to this new requirement.

Many thanks, working well as long as limelight is selected for the live CDN

You didn't turn the "Radio Location" Setting to "International". It is on "UK" by default. The stream urls will have a "nonuk" part instead of just "uk" when you do. I'll try to automate it if possible when I have time.

They are new to us. They come from the HLS Video Factory. I found the code in get_iplayer. I don't know how long they have been available though.

That is wierd because the Live Source is ignored at the moment. I only saw Akamai streams for my tests. Could you post a link of the actual stream that was played from your log file.
