Cloudready is derived from ChromiumOS, just like ChromeOS is. They are similar but not interchangeable. And as Cloudready requires UEFI firmware to boot, it won't work with the Legacy boot implemented on ChromeOS devices currently. That is changing soon however Smile

Well I know that both are ChromiumOS based, but it's a lot less hassle since there's a "company" behind it etc, works with updates too, and I think works with Netflix too.
It works with both legacy and efi, that's the point of it: works with about everything from about the first core duo cpus.

yeah I misspoke above, I meant to say it requires UEFI to dual boot. Either way it's certainly an option, though not one that's supported here Smile

Yes, but my take on it was to use autoboot usb option, install cloudready to a usb stick and insert the usb stick into chromebox whenever you want to boot to Chromeos/Cloudready.

no changes in Windows sadly, perhaps with the upcoming UEFI-compatible firmware. Power on after power failure restores last AC power state, which still means it will not power back on automatically when suspended without a firmware-level change

So no need for update as for now.
The box works just fine with your previous firmware and always behaves as expected.

I have an Asus Chromebox with OpenELEC installed (standalone). Do I have to prepare anything before I flash over to LibreELEC ?

I checked the Wiki but it wasn't clear if I can update to LibreELEC from my existing setup or reflash from USB?

"flashing" isn't the correct term here, you're simply installing an application/OS update. Upgrading from OpenELEC to LibreELEC is the same as installing an update for either - download the update file, copy into 'update' folder, reboot. You can always do a clean install from USB should you wish.

I used this script a year ago when setting up a dual boot OpenELEC/Chrome OS setup.

I went to switch over and update to LibreELEC 8.0 beta.

To do this, do I need to run the script as if the Chromebox was out of box?

EDIT: It appears this is a similar question to the previous post, except this is a dual boot setup

there is one upgrade issue that applies universally to both types of setups is the size of the system (1st) partition. Much older OE installations only required 256MB for the system partition, but newer OE/LE versions require ~500MB. If you initially set your system up when the smaller partition size was used, you'll need to backup your userdata and do a fresh install so that the system partition is recreated with the correct size. In the case that you try to upgrade and your system partition isn't large enough, the upgrade process with simply inform you of that and not attempt the upgrade

The 8.0 version download being added to the update folder did not work. It does say that this is the update to be used when updating from LibreELEC 7.0 so I supposed I need to get this version first?

EDIT: Did not work either. Maybe I'll just do a fresh install

OpenELEC has always used separate update files (.tar) and install images (.img.gz) and are labeled as such on the OE site, Chromebox wiki, etc. LibreELEC supports updating from either (with the plan to eliminate the separate upgrade file), but if you're upgrading from OpenELEC, then you still need to use the OpenELEC update format file.

ChromeBox Kodi E-Z Setup Script how come it installs Kryton? We want Jarvis 16.1. I dont think anybody likes the ugly Krypton interface. Cam I make it install Karvis 16.1?
