Hi guys,
sorry if this is not the right place to ask. Could you share plans, if any, to have an official Kodi app on Apple TV? I am aware of side load, just wondering if there is any effort to make it real sometimes later...
Thanks

This is not a support question so I will move to to general discussion but please do a bit of searching on the forum. This has been asked (and answered) many times.

If you don't need Python add-ons, MrMC is an excellent ATV4 fork of Kodi. No sideloading needed. It is a paid app, though.

All, thanks for your answers. I actually do not mind if official Kodi app would be a paid application in tvos appstore. What I am struggling to understand is whether those mentioned restrictions are really show stoppers. What are they? Can you provide a list or something?
Also, Ned, I have considered MrMC as an option. Firstly, my main issue is that those guys take open source and start making money out of it without supporting the actual developers. Also, if I understand correctly, some of those Python add-ons are subtitles, and that's just too bad.

MrMC (Davilla), the guy who makes the MrMC app, is actually a former Kodi/XBMC developer. He was the main Mac OS X developer, and the original iOS developer, as well as one of the main Android developers. Without him there would not likely be any Apple TV version of any kind. He continues to contribute back code to Kodi to this day, and a lot of MrMC improvements have already made their way into the upcoming Kodi v17 for iOS, OS X, and Android.
So he's both "the actual developers" and still helping out the original Kodi project :)
Subtitles in MrMC were moved out of add-ons and back into a core feature, so subtitle downloading is fully supported.

mind pointing to a single PR?
Just one?
https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/10758
https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/7991
https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/8030
https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/8832
https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/9858
https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/9062
https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/9911
https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/8181
That's not even a full list of MrMC-"era" code that is currently in Kodi, and there are even more PRs for additional code.
Those include examples where people found stuff from MrMC on their own, stuff where MrMC specifically pointed something out and suggested it go into mainline Kodi, and even some collaborations between himself and existing Kodi developers.
The only thing you could say is that he doesn't make the PRs himself, but I think it's understandable that he doesn't want to deal with the drama and just wants to code. Sometimes things happen by a proxy individual so that everyone can get along better, which seems to be working in everyone's favor.
You know that I'm not a MrMC fanboy. Him and I really were at odds for a long time. It's not about liking the guy or agreeing with his methods or not, or holding hands and singing songs. These are just facts: his code and his help continue to further the Kodi project. I'm honestly bewildered as to why anyone would want to dispute that.

I'm not knowledgeable into Apple products, but as a far as I understand, mrmc is actually the only viable Kodi-like solution on atv4.
1) the atv4 is not jailbroken
2) you can sideload via xcode and "temporary" signature, but you have to sign/install every week
Also, mrmc is a paying app, but part of the deal to enter the store is for them to actually pay license fees for some of the codecs...

well, at least this apple-dickhead provides the source. it's an improvement. you shouldn't be surprised, they will all reveal their money-grubbing nature eventually. you don't roll over and spread em for apple like these guys do otherwise.
