The barebones i3 is around 50€ more here than the MSI which includes RAM&SSD
Dual HDMI, one is 1.4 and the other one 2.0.

Thanks, suppliers of the Beebox-S are few and far between here and thus it's stupidly expensive. The barebones BRIX (BKi3A-7100) claims HDMI2.0 and only a bit more money than the MSI by the time you've added memory/ssd, how about that? I assume a HDMI2.0 output will still play nicely with an older non-4K TV
Although I note from previous messages that I need 1.4 for 3D playback?

Yes at the moment you need HDMI 1.4. The Intel driver needs to be fixed. I hope this will happen soon.

How come the Intel NUCs have 640 graphics (except for i3 which has 620) and all the other manufacturers only have 620 ?
I like the look of Gigabyte and Zotac better (matte black fits better with the home theater stuff), but right now I'm thinking of holding off until the Intel i5 NUC comes here.

Basically all these small boxes with i5-7200U that came out end of last year have Intel 620 GPU, and Intel's own NUC will come with i5-7260U and a much beefier 640 GPU.
Kinda unfair to all the other manufacturers?

not if they knew about it, but we won't know. sucks but hardware constantly moves on and it could be why the intel nuc's are coming out later
for the purpose of 3D playback probably does not make a difference. for 4K and HDR? dunno.

I already have everything at home ( a box, disk, memory, etc. so it should be way cheaper). The only thing left to know, how to know that hdr and hdmi2.0 works with this combination.

Probably not really specific to Kaby Lake, but what are the differences between Windows and Linux as OS?
Am looking for a device that can play 4k@60 4:4:4, HDR and HD audio (bitstreamed) ... 3D is a plus, but I could use my RPi2 for that

If you want an OS which can play 4K content and 3D MVC, then Windows 10 should be your first choice. If you don't care about 3D then is LibreELEC also a good one. There is no support for HDR content yet on both platforms.
The main downside is that there's hardly any 4K content available to playback it with Kodi. I would wait until more content is available or the possibility comes to rip your own UHD-Blurays. Right now this isn't possible yet.

I know there is little to no content yet for 4K / HDR ... but going for a new device, you want it a little future proof.
The only content I got now is 1080p and some with HD audio, but since I got the rest of the equipment, would love to get more out of it
