why is it gone? i am sure this was covered at some point but obviously i am not one to upgrade until forced. at this point i am about to be 3 full releases behind, but why is the ease and simplicity of kodibuntu gone?

now i have to install a distro and add kodi? really?

Why not Libreelec? Pretty good and lightweight.

Kodibuntu is very similar to Lubuntu.

What you can try is to install Lubuntu, install Kodi from the PPA as per the Kodi Wiki
and configure it to autostart and optionally autologin.

I done my x86 Kodi box with Ubuntu Server and configured it to suit my needs.

I also learned a lot in the process.

Fritsch's thread has it all. I used the desktop version of Lubuntu and used that first post to get the equivalent of Kodibuntu, but in 16.04/Krypton form. You can pretty much copy/paste from this thread into Terminal. Sure, more typing that a simple Kodibuntu download, but still quite functional even for a Linux N00b like me.
