Auto resulution switcher 1080P/2160P
#1
Hi,

I've got new TV and GT 1030 card on my LibreELEC PC. I have turned on "Sync to display" and "Adjust refresh rate" options but Kodi behaves not like I would like to.
If I play a 1080P/24P file then TV switches to proper resolution. So it stays with 1080P and just adjust refresh rate to 24P. Everything here is OK. But if I play a 2160P/24P file then Kodi stays on 1080P resolution.
I can bump up Kodi UI resolution from 1080P to 2160P. 4K movies will be OK, but then Kodi won't set proper resolution for 1080P movies.

Tried same thing on Windows and there everything works like it should. How can I fix this in Linux/LibreELEC?

I'm using latest LibreELEC v8.1.0 with GeForce GT 1030. Kodi UI is running at 1080P. Maybe there is some system config file where I can edit supported resolutions to switch to?

Provide a Debug Log, please. The code on linux is the very same as on windows used for up switching.

Can you check with the LibreELEC guys if they have patched out the functionality? It seems my code is not in there :-(

OK. I'll repost it on LibreELEC forums.

8.1.0 beta is the latest official LibreELEC version,
but there are (unofficial) Milhouse nightly testbuilds.

I checked: https://github.com/LibreELEC/LibreELEC.t...di/patches and there is no removal of this functionality.

Can someone with an intel setup reproduce?

Todo:
- Set kodi to 1080p60 or some other 1080p mode
- Enable Adjust Refreshrate to match Video
- Play a 3840x2160@24 video

What you need:
- A 4k TV and gpu that can output 3840x2160@24

Thanks.

Another question. When I tested this on Kodi win32 build it properly switched resolution from 1080P to 2160P. It would be great if Kodi could show its UI in full 2160P on 4K TVs (yes, it looks great) and also switch resolution down for 1080P movies. Currently it only does it in one way (so it sets higher resolution for movies only, not lower). 1080P UI on 4K TV looks OK but not good or great.

So such options:
For video files that res is >1080P switch to: [selectable res]
For video files that res is <=1080P switch to: [selectable res]

And then current resolution selector would work for Kodi UI.

I tested with this sample video (both webm and AVC, [email protected]) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RhN6WrI_zU and with the Big Buck Bunny 3840x2160@30 Hz sample.

Kaby Lake i7-7700. Ubuntu 17.04 with Kodi 17.4 from the PPA. Kodi was set to 1080p59.94. Adjust Refresh Rate to match video was on. Playing the duck sample switched to 3840x2160p23.976 Hz. It switched back to 1080p59.94 when done playing. Playing the Big Buck Bunny sample switched to 3840x2160p30. It also switched back to 1080p59.94 when done. The resolution up switching is working fine for me.

Okay - then we have an nvidia bug. Please open an issue over at LibreELEC.

What about this idea? Or maybe – how can I achieve this right now without such feature in Kodi?
