Upgraded the firmware today to 1.72, using Escalades community version of Libreelec and all is working good for me.

Updated but after 10 minutes still black screen.
Restartet the system, new Version is there, but only Stereo Sound.
Try to go back to 1.66
Can't find any download. Can someone please offer me Version 1.66?

I use escalades community build with no issues. You can find it in the libreelec forums

I run linux/single-boot on my J4205 htpc - Fedora 26. - 4.13.10-200.fc26.x86_64. With an AVR X2300W.
Do you need to flash this new firmware using the tool by booting windows from USB (hopefully not!), or does the kernel load the binary as a blob? If the latter which .bin did you use and how did you replace the old one in your system?

I don't run windows at all so no worries.
I hope linux users can shed light on how to get either 1.72 or 1.66 firmware installed, without a copy of windows. I was thinking whether this FW comes included in the J4205 BIOS. I notice there is version 1.40 release in late Sep - would that include v1.66? (I'm still running bios v1.20)
Linux has been working very well in this build, but I do notice the odd problem of no audio after resuming, occassionally, (using custom edid and all, restarting X usually fixes the problem without a reboot).

After the latest Windows 10 Fall Creators Update I started to have problems on Windows with automatic display refresh rate adjustment.
The sound was there (passthrough) but the screen was black until I manually switched the hdmi channel back and forth on my TV.
With the 1.72 update on J4205 everything got worse. I have no sound with passthrough and the black screen problem remains after refresh rate adjustment.
So I tried Libreelec 8.2.0 and Ubuntu 17.10 with Xorg (On Wayland kodi only sees the current refresh rate) and I can confirm that both a working great with the 1.72 update.
Passthrough sound is working and refresh rate adjustment too.
Btw. Is the CEC pin correctly connected to the DP aux port on the J4205 so that it could be supported through the kernel ?
