Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows
use a virtual drive. these act as a dvd/bluray drive on your computer. when you click on an ISO it opens it up in the virtual drive so acts just like the disc would. kodi-dsplayer is then able to play it just like it would any disc that is not copy protected. if its supported in kodi-dsplayer as i'm under the impression that kodi-dsplayer wont open iso natively. but i could be wrong.

my advice would be to use makemkv and transfer all your iso to mkv (main title). unless that is you like to sit through the endless dribble of adverts, directors commentary, making of etc.etc. if you do then stick to iso.

i was the same as you at one point in that 90% of my stuff was ISO. trust me its well worth the effore to transfer to MKV. ISO and MKV are only ''containers'' for which the information is stored just like a zip or rar file.

The Ruipro cable fixed all the drop outs and blue screens I was getting after stopping playback.. That's my fault for messing around with the Amazon redmere cables I had purchased. I will be sending those back now.. The Ruipro is very good .. It detects HDR and sends the signal directly to the JVC like it should be and HDR kicks in ..

Couple of things I noticed however.. When HDR is active it automatically sets the Gamma to HDR (ST.2084) which looks stunning, however I noticed it crushes a lot of the dark and black areas.. So I experimented and changed the Gamma for HDR to B and that was a bit better for the blacks (in brought back highlights in the blacks) but the brighter scenes were not as good as when they were with (ST.2084) gamma.. Hard to explain but has anyone else experiemented with this at all? would like to know what others use for the Gamma setting with HDR content..

Also Those with HTPC.. Do you set your desktop resolution to 4K or 1080p? and what colour space are we supposed to set desktop as within the GPU? RGB Full 4:4:4 or YcBcR ? Thank you..

Here are some pics with Gamma at HDR (ST.2084)

and now with Gamma for HDR set to B:

You should set your desktop to RGB Full at 8-bits at 60 Hz because it is a PC not a video player. Play a video with a different refresh rate and return to the GPU control panel. Now set the bit depth to 10-bits for each video fps. You will need 10-bits for HDR to engage on your display with AMD cards. This also requires your projector's black level is set to RGB Full.
i thought that was the job of LAV video filter apart from the HDR switching. LAV video sets the 'output formats' while madvr sets the aspect and refresh rate.

i was under the impression that if no 'switch rates' was set up in madvr that it uses the desktop settings. if you have set madvr up to switch to different aspects and refresh rates then this makes the desktop settings null and void and the only time it comes into play is when you return to the kodi interface or indeed your desktop. however if you have not added different aspects and refresh rates in madvr then your desktop refresh rate becomes the 'default' for all video playback.

so it matters not what you set your desktop to regarding aspect and refresh as long as you have set madvr up to switch to different ones for which madvr and lav video take over.

Sorry, but this is undesirable unless Kodi via a plugin or extension can auto mount when I select the ISO and then auto unmount upon completion or when closing the file. No conversions, either. Sorry.

take what you need from this thread https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=229692 or ask the brazen1 how its done. i personally dumped ISO as its tooo much trouble with compatibility.

from what i played with years ago regarding virtual drives, yes you can auto mount/unmount depending on how things are set up. a virtual drive is exactly the same as a a hardware drive as far as the computer and programs are concerned. it waits till its 'loaded' the ISO then 'ejects' it when done. clicking a file (movie) via kodi is exactly the same as without, its just that kodi creates a 'shortcut' to that file within its GUI. the OS/virtual drive should still 'see' the ISO being opened and place it in the virtual drive for playback. kodi might need a script written to tell it what to do regarding the file in the virtual drive.

best speak to brazen1 though.

is there any specific reason why you wont use MKV?

@hifihedgehog makemkv isn't a conversion, it's more of an extraction and reassembling the disc into an mkv.

I just tried installing AV Splitter (last stable x86 release, since the x64 version could not even be configured), made sure it was installed with "Register Source Filter..." and "Support .bdmv..." options checked and added it in Kodi as an extra filter.  ISO's are not supported. You will have to use an external player.

Read the relevant section in my guide. It explains these madVR settings in detail. The section I am talking about runs from RGB levels all the way down to bit depths and the "Note" in red, bold text. The bold, red text explains GPU configuration for 10-bit output.

I fully understand this. It is a container, just like branched M2TS files on a Blu-ray disc or an AVI file with a DivX video stream are containers. The problem is menuing and playlists are MIA with an MKV rip since an MKV rip can only contain one single playlist and not every video playlist on a disc. This makes MKVs highly undesirable for me.

To my knowledge, this is actually not true. I have read of some users who have successfully used AV Splitter to play ISOs, which can actually parse BDMV playlists. Maybe this is completely false or a misreading on my part, though.

ISO is supported as far as I know, however it has to be mounted, this is where the problem arises. You can create scripts to mount them first. Funnily enough, the reason you want to use ISO is the exact reason I dont, I hate pointless menus, I just want to play the movie straight away.

i'll have a look using these test files, I rip mine straight to MKV so I dont have any ISO locally, 3D movies wont work though, they have to be MKV's if you want to get 3D MVC frame packed to work.

Hi, it works using stock KODI but not KODI DS.

I think ts MADVR that doesnt support ISO, if you play using standard video player it works inside DS, you might as well just use normal KODI if you cant use MADVR though. Try asking about ISO on MADVR DOOM thread,

i had a look at that thread and noticed you were asking about custom resolutions via nvidia. to answer your question, its about frame rates and audio sync. it works a treat but there are steps involved to get it working properly.
i was pretty confused about it till i worked it out but basically nvidia 23hz is actually 24hz but it goes from 23-25hz auto. once you change the rate in madvr and before hitting the 'optimize' you need to add the custom profile onto the main profiles in nvidia then 'optimize' by playing a movie for 30min or more. once it has been optimised you then choose the best rate from the optimized list with no dropout detected that your display device will handle.
once done you get silky smooth playback and perfect synced audio. what confused me the most was, i was expecting the finished result to lock at 23.976hz but it dont. instead it makes it 'time demeaned' regarding your connected equipment and cables a bit like reclock without the waspi.

once you have 'optimized' custom resolutions you no longer need to use 'sync audio', in fact its best if you turn it off on all devices including lav audio etc.etc while using dsplayer before doing the optimization.

i think this can also be done with AMD GPU's

I was asking on the MADVR forum why people were trying to add them via the NVIDIA control panel instead of through MADVR itself which works, I also have an NVIDIA 1050 and I set that up in MADVR and it syncs great, 1 frame drop every 3+ hours which is perfect.
Reply
i must still be doing it wrong... lol
although everything is synced i'm still only getting 5-6min on 4k and HD but SD is always no sync issues. it never shows any dropped/repeated frames though.

i have noticed though its very dependant on the scaling properties and which decoder i use. seems to be the worst on directx11.

maybe they are creating the custom profile in nvidia control panel to force refresh rates.
