OK, so this is only valid for this add-on, not for subtitles in general in Kodi.

  1. Read this page of the Kodi documentation.
  2. Do not fall for the section called "HOW-TO:Set up subtitle services". Instead, follow the instructions given in "2 Add-on settings" to open the iPlayer WWW add-on settings.
  3. You will see three tabs/pages in the add-on settings:
    1. General
    2. Display
    3. Streams.
  4. Choose "1. General".
  5. In this tab/page, you will see a number of options. Scroll down to the last option, which is called "Use subtitles when available".
  6. Switch this option on.
  7. Leave settings, go to the add-on, start a programme. If the programme supports subtitles, they will show up.

With iPlayer WWW I get the live channels
(watch live) not on Kodi 17.6 and 18 beta, but for example the most popular. I am behind VPN. Someone a solution?

We do not support VPN usage as Kodi does not need it. Also accessing the BBC iPlayer content almost always fails when using a commercial VPN as they actively block them (it is against their terms of use and those of the BBC licence see).

See our VPN policy (wiki) for more details.

Sorry,  I understand it . But the UK is still a part of Europe and the Netherlands too. Is it wrong too show BBC1 etc. and listen British radio ?

The BBC is funded by the license fee (currently), and that in part is why they restrict access to UK IP addresses.

Whether other channels and providers show BBC programmes is usually an agreement (and payment) between them.

But we're getting off-topic...

In case anybody runs into issues with TV: They changed something. It is a small change, but a change which breaks a lot. Thanks to user brejc8 on GitHub this issue is already fixed and updates are on their way to the official repo. This issue may or may not affect you as of now. If you urgently need a fix, download the latest version from GitHub. If you can wait, just wait for the update to come as usual.

Great news. Is this the error that if you search for something or it just gives and error and says to check the logs? I've been able to access programs through the channel highlights; e.g., informer, but it's only the first episode.
Assuming it is the same thing, how long before the update comes out? I am not trying to get this sped up, I've just now idea how long there is between the release and the update - days weeks months?

Thanks for all the work you guys do on this!

I think this bug should have been fixed some time ago already. The new change should not give any errors, but lead to lots of completely empty listings. I have to admit, I did not bother to test the symptoms myself, I only tested if the bugfix provided worked as expected.

The release should be out already. It was merged into the official repo Wednesday night. Please check if an update to 3.0.36/2.5.44 is available. If it isn't, there may be someting wrong with your official repo settings.

If you already are on 3.0.36/2.5.44 and get this error, please delete the iplayer.cookies file in your Kodi userdata folder (specifically in the addon_data/plugin.video.iplayerwww directory) and try again. If the problem persists, report back here and I will take a closer look.

Hi.  I also had the problem of not being able to watch any past programs (and getting the 'see the log' error).
Deleting the cookies file fixed it, and it's working again.  Thank you.

Yes, they did change something. Thanks to atj over at GitHub, a fix is already on its way to the official repo. Hopefully should be available by tonight.
