[MYSQL] HOW-TO: 5 User XBMC
(2019-08-19, 16:53)OtheA Wrote: It did it for all users I created _U02 though _U05.  Maybe I missed something in a previous step?  Is it possible it's because I'm running MariaDB on my QNAP NAS rather than MySQL?

It's a fresh install, so I think I'm going to blow all the databases away and start over to make sure I didn't screw something up.
That Database should be fine.
The master Database "Kodi_U01_Video_116" should have 42 tables/views.
and each other database should have 37 tables/views.

I wiped everything and changed my user to reflect yours so I'd have to edit as little as possible in case I was missing something.  This is a clean install of both the database and Kodi.  Confirmed that master database has 42 tables/views, but the others have none.  It creates the other database, but it's empty.  Am I missing some initial steps to set this up?  KODI_18 user has all privileges.  Sorry for my ignorance.

Empty meaning there's no tables for Kodi_U02_Video_116.

Okay... disregard.  I did it again, and it worked...  Weird...  Must have been user error.

It may have been how phpMyAdmin was handing it?  What ended up working is when I first ran it, it created the empty database and failed with the error I provided earlier.  I then had to refresh phpMyAdmin, select the database and see that it was empty, then when I ran it the second time, everything was imported without a hitch.  I'll be the first to admit I'm not a DBA, so I'm not sure if I was doing something wrong.  Maybe my NAS was timing out or something?  I don't know, but now all databases are there with the correct amount of tables you referenced.

I'm working on another Kodi box and will verify it can see the database.  I'm presuming in the advancedsettings.xml on the other system I reference Kodi_U02_Video_ in order for it to access it's associated database.  Thanks so much for the guide.  I'm one step closer.

Awesome.

yep you are correct just give that a new U02, U03 etc for each user
you can also have more then one box accessing the same numbers at the same time. but only scan from one device that is on the U01 database

I do it over local PTP links but not the internet.
I can see this adding delays depending on the size of you collection.

Okay, I got Kodi installed on another SBC, but I'm needing to limit what my kids have access to.  I created a profile and just mapped the content I'm wanting them to watch, but it looks like it built it's own database rather than accessing the SQL database.  I think I'm missing a fundamental configuration on the profiles to have them match the SQL database.  I'm still poking around.

Okay, I think I found a reference to what I'm missing from earlier in the topic:
Quote:in your advancedsettings.xml you need this file for each user/profile
EG:
Main
<videodatabase>
    <type>mysql</type>
    <host>192.168.0.110</host>
    <port>3306</port>
    <user>KODI</user>
    <pass>****</pass>
    <name>Kodi_Matt_Video_</name>
  </videodatabase>

User
<videodatabase>
    <type>mysql</type>
    <host>192.168.0.110</host>
    <port>3306</port>
    <user>KODI</user>
    <pass>****</pass>
    <name>Kodi_Mace_Video_</name>
  </videodatabase>

So I put the U01 advancedsettings.xml in the Userdata directory and then put the U02 advancedsettings.xml in the profiles directory under the kids profile?

The advancedsettings.xml file in the <name></name> tags is the database without the number (116 this is the version) I was using names then I changed to using number this isn't a big deal you can use what you like, as long as they match.

In regards the limiting access, you can problem change the view's SQL for this user to limit the data by the path (if you have the kid's stuff in there own share) or some other data (but haven't tried this) the other way might be editing the node from within KODI.
You can change the ACL of the share to limit users access (that's if you have users setup to access data), they will still see the covers and info but can't access the files.
Personally "Guest" access should never be used and a user for each user should be used with a password and given Read Only access to the shares needed, never use the admin account as the passwords are in plan text.

I don't limit access to Shows/Movies and I have someone as young as 5 accessing this data, reviewing the logs and they just watch the same stuff, kids sort of stuff.
If you are trying to limit access to shows/movies that have Nudity, Violence or whatever. Do the kids have access to the internet? if yes they have access to all that sort of stuff anyhow. (kids are crafty and always find a way)

I have <name>Kodi_U01_Video_</name> in the advancedsettings.xml under the userdata directory, but I think I'm not understanding how to associate profiles with their database counterparts.  Would I put another advancedsettings.xml with <name>Kodi_U02_Video_</name> in the profile name directory under profiles?  Sorry, but I haven't used profiles before.  We only had one KODI box and would watch it together, now I'm looking at putting KODI boxes in all the kids' rooms.

Edit: Searching the forum shows this is correct.  Each profile can have an advancedsettings.xml.  I think I'll rip a PG movie tonight and upload it to my NAS and rescan to see if both are updated.
--

I have my movies and TV split into rating directories like below.

Movies
    |- NC17
    |- R
    |- PG-13
    |- PG
    |- G

Television
    |- TV MA
    |- TV 14
    |- TV PG
    |- TV G
    |- TV Y7
    |- TV Y

Then I created a profile for testing.  Under the media, I've only mapped the sources for PG and G directories for movies and up to PG for television.  That's when I noticed it looks like it created it's own database on the SBC rather than pulling from the NAS.  It's working the way I want it to, but doesn't look like I'm getting the benefit of a centralized database.

My kids have limited access to the internet and there are parental controls in place with that as well.  They only get an hour of screen time on a weekday and a few hours on Saturday and Sunday.  It's not that I'm expecting my kids to try and circumvent anything, it's more about accidental access.  I know we are getting deep in the weeds here and I'm probably making things too complicated, but I do appreciate your help.  Thanks.

Within the userdata dir is where you have the default user stuff then in the profile dir you have the Profiles and a set of files for that user, I copy the advancedsettings.xml, mediasources.xml, passwords.xml, and sources.xml to each user and update the passwords and change the database within the advancedsettings.
here is my setup

mediasources.xml this is the connection to the nas should only need one per a nas
xml:
<mediasources>
    <network>
        <location id="0">smb://[email protected]/</location>
    </network>
</mediasources>
sources.xml all the shares from the nas
xml:
<sources>
    <video>
        <default pathversion="1"></default>
        <source>
            <name>Movies</name>
            <path pathversion="1">smb://x.x.x.x/Movies/</path>
            <allowsharing>false</allowsharing>
        </source>
        <source>
            <name>TV Shows</name>
            <path pathversion="1">smb://x.x.x.x/TV_Shows/</path>
            <allowsharing>false</allowsharing>
        </source>
        <source>
            <name>TV Shows Archive</name>
            <path pathversion="1">smb://x.x.x.x/TV_Shows_Archive/</path>
            <allowsharing>false</allowsharing>
        </source>
    </video>
</sources>
so you might go to the next level but just setting ACL's to each folder to a group then apply that to the kids account would be best if your nas allows ACL's (Synology and QNap are both good but netgear units are best for paper weights) there are other good ones too or even just a file server.

with the above if I disabled access to say TV_Shows_Archive to a user and leave it within the sources.xml and they try to access it they get a unable to access message (so then you just change the settings on the nas/file server)

Ok I had a look into the node editing Add-on:Library_Node_Editor (wiki) have a look at 4.2
so under "Video Library > TV shows" (can do the same for Movies) I added a rule at this level Path contains TV_Shows_Archive (you should be able to do this for the folders can also do smb://x.x.x.x/TV_Shows_Archive/
or you can use "does not contain" and list all the ones you want to keep them away from.

only down side within the default skin is the main menu buttons don't work with this filter but if you go into "Videos > TV Shows" from the main menu and add Titles (and any others) to your fav (you can rename to TV Shows within the fav menu) and hide the main TV Shows on the menu this might work (if you run another skin then you can prob change the linking of the default menu)

hope this helps

so you might go to the next level but just setting ACL's to each folder to a group then apply that to the kids account would be best if your nas allows ACL's (Synology and QNap are both good but netgear units are best for paper weights) there are other good ones too or even just a file server.

with the above if I disabled access to say TV_Shows_Archive to a user and leave it within the sources.xml and they try to access it they get a unable to access message (so then you just change the settings on the nas/file server)

Thank you for the explanation.  I'll play around with it.  I appreciate you for the time you've taken to help me.

Does anyone use MySQL with Kodi over Internet ?
Thank you.

I do it over local PTP links but not the internet.
I can see this adding delays depending on the size of you collection.

My Stats
Database Size: 207.1 MiB [Rows: 775,376 Data: 125 MiB Indexes: 82.1 MiB]

One row = one media ?
And I would like to try to host the MySQL database on a remote server to share it with my smartphone, my home and my workplace, but I don't know if it's possible to do that without lose security side.

I think you might misunderstand what Kodi with MySQL is.

Not really, row can also have Actors, File meta, Seasons, Path info etc but this is only the text info.
if you are wanting to steam to your home and workplace this will not work.
you will still need a vpn to home and a good upload speed, and a host of other problems.

the info I put up about the size is just the text in the database, no media files that's like 40 TB of stuff on a NAS.

If you would like to watch stuff from your home and at work from your smartphone I recon Kodi isn't what your after.
also shouldn't you be working at work?  Undecided

you should have a look at say Plex this allows steaming from what I see, might be worth looking into it.

Kodi is more about media file you have on your own network to your own network.

Thank you for all informations Smile

I already use Emby but I would like to try other thing, a DIY solution. If it's not possible or very complicated, I'll stay with Emby.

And you're right, I'm working at work but sometimes I like to watch a TV show or other at my lunch break Wink
