Is it possible to have a widget in the basic menu setting? I'm trying to get it to look like the original A:Z which is still the family favorite at my place.
Doesn't look like it. Your best option is utilizing the submenus and ticking "replace with hub" under settings - in there you can add all the sections you want and add a widget to all of them so you can display playlists. But that's rather limiting too compared to the multi widget setup in terms of needed clicks to navigate. I guess that's why it's called basic. :p But it works. There's also the "Background widget" which gives you an option to click "Up" and browse set content. But it's again rather basic. (It's the first screenshot in post 1 by jurial.)
Out of curiosity, what makes AZ1 the most preferred for you guys? You can almost make the multi widget horizontal setting work like old AZ did. It can have a widget that displays what ever you want from a playlist, and you click on the home menu item to go into a set library or playlist. If you only add one widget to the multi widget view you get synopsis and times and all that jazz added. I do it in my movie setting. Sure it's not JUST like old AZ seeing that it moves around stuff, but it presents the content you want pretty neatly and gives you an option to go into the library as well.
See what I mean?
I can see how basic looks closest to old AZ though. And makes the background fanart really stand out. But besides that, I feel like AZ2 is way more versatile in getting to the content you want quickly.
And all this multi widget extravaganza is really new and sexy looking, so who knows, maybe basic will receive some single widget love later down the line.
Or maybe basic is just... Basic.
There's also the option for the AZ1 Leia-MOD by beatmasterrs
