I'm using an old linux laptop and would like to know which are the 5 fastest skins in your opinion -any platform you use.

Quartz should be part of the conversation. A lightweight skin with settings to assist in dealing with slow hardware (leia version only). Mimic and Pellucid would also make my short list of minimalist skins.
Also check out the Skin Tightener add-on. By setting all animation times to zero, it can help in hiding the jankiness of resource intensive animation effects on slower hardware. hth
Edit: Also recommend using the Texture Cache Maintenance Utility to ensure all artwork is pre-cached for faster rendering. Helps significantly on fresh installs.

Adding to Hitcher's point, once you're done auditioning skins your kodi install may be larded up with add-ons not needed for the skin you've chosen. It might behoove you to blow kodi away and reinstall to remove those artifacts.
