Without guide data I get large seek times, Kodi error on instant recording, but...
#1
I just noticed a serious bug now that I don't have guide data. I'm using the latest preview build of ServerWMC (1260), but not sure if that matters. I've never been without guide data testing instant recording, so I don't know when this started to happen.

I get very large value seek times, and when I click the white circle to instant record, Kodi *thinks* it can't start a recording (can't add a timer, gives an error), however, ServerWMC *silently* starts an instant recording in the background, anyway! I'm glad I checked, as ServerWMC had two instant recordings (two tuners) going in the background that I didn't know it had started.

Here's a screenshot of seek times: https://imgur.com/a/yqdDMaa

Here's the Kodi log file after trying to start the recording, look for "ERROR: PVR::CPVRClient::AddTimer: Add-on 'ServerWMC:192.168.0.114:9080' returned an error: server error":

I have seen something similar to your first image and seek bar issue. This has been over the last year even when I had guide data. But in my case I think the issue was different, I have a few over-the-air channels that during bad weather the signal is weak and it cuts in and cuts out.
After the recording completes and I try to playback the file the guide bar looks similar to your picture and I'm unable to seek in the file. I believe it was because with the signal cutting out the timeline got corrupted or Windows Media center got lost during the recording in the timeline.
What I didn't see was huge numbers like in your picture not sure where those came from but without a guide Windows Media center has no information of how long or short a recording is or going to be. And with your own admission you're claiming a recording starts and you didn't even know it was going so the one you were looking at is it possible it had been going for a day or something to make those huge numbers.
And next you should get some guide data it's very easy if you go over to the green button forums there's ways to import the data manually from websites or you can sign up for schedules direct for $25 a year it's only $2 a month it's a deal. I did it on New Year's Eve in a couple hours at about 7:30 p.m. I realize my guide had stopped at 6 p.m. and then a few hours later I had a new guide.

Oh, just one more thought if your guide stop somewhere back at New year's at 6 p.m. and that's what you see when you call up your guide and your clients maybe that's why the number so big on your screenshot because it's all the way back to where the guide stopped until the current time of the recording.

Thanks for the detailed logs.  I have never seen what the logs look like with no guide data - they are a mess!

Back in ancient history I found that kodi would not display a channel in the guide view if there was no guide data for the channel - which I didn't like - so I created a messy fix of just putting in a dummy guide entry, called "no guide data available" (or something like that).  This fake episode has a very long run time to make it look right in the view.   This fix is on by default, worked surprisingly well, and I really have not thought about it since (nor I guess have my users).  I don't know if I ever thought about what would happen if someone tried to record it, but that's my guess about what the errors/delays are coming from.

I think I heard that kodi fixed the problem of not showing channels without guide data in some rev after that.  To test this, you can turn of this kludge by setting DisplayChannelsWithNoDataInGuide to false.  Then restart swmc and kodi and see what happens.

As for fixing all the problems that seem to be caused by not having any guide data I think that I am going to punt.  Sorry about that.

Also saw this, in my case a 2 min recording of the playing channel was made.  ServerWMC status page was showing the recording in progress (days later) and exiting/restarting swmc got rid of that.

It was only recording for about 30 minutes or so, but those huge numbers are on the *live* stream, not the recording.

Yeah, I'm in the thread over there and know about the schedules direct, but I actually only record one show OTA right now, so I've just scheduled that show manually. I've already got the HDHomeRun free live schedule information through their app, too, so I don't really need to pay for the schedule info unless I start recording more shows again.

Ok, just tested it. Btw, I also had to "clear data" under PVR & Live TV settings.

Setting it to false fixed the large numbers on the seek bar, but it didn't fix the instant recording error. Sad

That said, I just read on EPG123's homepage that "If you use SiliconDust HDHomeRun tuners and receive listings for their slice guide, you may be able to import that data into WMC without any additional cost." I'll look into what "may be able to" means, as that would seem like a good workaround for instant recording.

Looks like that's a no: https://forum.silicondust.com/forum/view...89#p355689

AND

https://www.thegreenbutton.tv/forums/vie...06#p136306

With that unavailable, I wonder if there's a way to create some sort of dummy guide programming that would work around this bug, without having to fix the more complicated things that krusty doesn't want to touch?

Setting a manual (setting the start and top times on a channel) recording still works with no guide data doesn't it?  Is just instant recording that is not working they way you want?

Yeah, I just tested setting a timer recording manually, and that still works. Instant recording is the only thing I've noticed to be acting up (it still records, but gives that error and the Kodi GUI doesn't realize anything is recording).

So what do you want instant record to do without guide data? Record for a couple of hours?

Kodi has a setting for default duration for instant recordings.

When an instant recording gets scheduled, Kodi will pass a timer tag to the add-on that has start time set to 0 (special value to denote an instant recording) and end time is set according to the Kodi setting or if the user had chosen something different the user provided value.

What ksooo said! Smile Btw, for reference, I just tried changing a related setting under "Settings->PVR & Live TV->Recording->Instant recording action" to "Record for a fixed period of time" as well as "Ask what to do" and that causes the same error as above.

Add-on bug. Works just fine with other add-ons.
