[RELEASE] Steam Launcher - Start Steam Big Picture Mode from within Kodi
Ubuntu 18.04, Gnome 3.38.2, and wmctrl -m lists my window manager as: GNOME Shell

Does that suffice, or do I need to install one of the ones you listed? If so, I would like to change the appearance of my desktop as little as possible to get the Steam Launcher working - can you recommend one?

I read from my first debug that initially the issue was xdotool missing. After installing that the Steam Launcher got Steam so far as installing an update to the Steam client but then would not run. I tried again and generated the following debug log.

When run from terminal there is some output about not detecting the window: https://paste.kodi.tv/dajoderewo

Fix:

Clearing download cache
Starting 2 game updates until complete
From terminal: steam -reset
(I think this is equivalent to steam://flushconfig on Windows and Mac OS)

Okay, so this worked once and is not working again, despite the same troubleshooting.

Also, when it doesn't work, the following output in terminal, even after kodi is closed, seems to be an infinite loop as I cannot stop it:
Quote:script.steam.launcher: steam bpm window not deteced - looping

So I absolutely love this addon, it's absolutely perfect for Steam... but is there any way of modifying it so it could run other Windows applications? I know a little bit of Python, but I had a quick look and most of this goes way over my head :/

Or does anyone know of any way of doing a similar thing to this - i.e. close Kodi, launch and application, then when said application closes it relaunches Kodi.

Many thanks

That's great thank you, I spent all of last night learning how to put my own addon together, so this helps Smile

3.5.0-beta for Kodi 19 only:
Quote:Make addon compatible with python 3/kodi 19.
Update settings + language files to be compatible with kodi 19
Due to changes with layout tags Portuguese and French translations have been removed until someone can update them inline with what is required with kodi 19
Remove executable tag from addon - addon will now be displayed under 'games'

Gotcha, figured it out. The pointer for Steam was pointing to the wrong path. Changed it and all is good!
I'm experiencing the same issue with Pop_OS. What path did you end up using?

The command:

which steam

will show you where to point the addon

i don't see how to edit posts, but i'm rolling back my version of kodi, there's too many compatibility issues with add-ons! i'll probably have another issue with this add-on, though! it wasn't working before i updated from 18.7 to 19, either.
