[Release] Backup (formerly XBMC Backup)
(2021-02-01, 13:15)DarrenHill Wrote: There's been an issue recently with the mirror servers not serving up some dependencies correctly (it seems perhaps due to how the versioning numbers were set on some addons, including idna).

Apparently it has now been resolved, so once everything sync's up again properly, it should work properly again (*crosses fingers*).

Yay!! Thank you for the heads up!  I retried installing from the repo, and it worked like a champ.  The dependencies page for script.module.yaml had a version number and no longer has "Not available" right beneath it.

I am currently experiencing several issues with Backup on Matrix. I posted them to the Backup repo's issue tracker.

I have a Matrix Kodi running on a Google Chromecast with Google TV. It all crashed (my fault trying to add a USB drive which then crapped itself) Anyway, trying to restore from my recent backup.
Using SMB1 and set that in SMB settings. If I add the SMB folder as a source it reads it fine and authenticates but the backup addon when I select restore just gives me a blank list of folders and won't restore yet once I fix this and restore (By manually copying the backup to a location Backup can see I will then be able to backup/restore again.

What is the issue reading an SMB volume in this addon?

Without a debug or something I'm not really. The addon itself doesn't have any logic that Kodi doesn't have. For file IO it's using Kodi's built in VFS libraries. SMB within Kodi works the same as within the addon.

If you're not getting a list of your backups to choose from it could be an authentication problem with the SMB share or something about the layout of that folder, perhaps it can't find them properly.

Hi,
I used the default backup addon and I saved the file in the Amazon stick TV root, I would like to save the file in an external source such as eg. the PC that I have in the network to share videos with Kodi or in dropbox but for the latter I didn’t understand how to do it, can someone help me, please?

@donnje - your thread has been merged into the backup addon support thread (this current one).

Where possible, please use the addons support threads when you have questions about addons.

Yeah but I can select the same smb directory as a source and it seems to read it ok.
After I eventually got the backup restored it sees the backups from smb share in the addon again too...

Based place to start would be the Wiki, which has a good explanation of all the program settings. In the Remote Directory area you can set other locations, including network locations that Kodi can read/write to. https://github.com/robweber/xbmcbackup/w...figuration

There was an issue where backups weren't listing properly in some cases due to path formatting. The fix for this isn't in the main repo version yet but will be pushed soon. Perhaps this is what you were experiencing? https://github.com/robweber/xbmcbackup/c...trix-1.6.6

@robweber For Kodi 18 Leia I see the last version from official Kodi repo is 1.1.3
https://mirrors.kodi.tv/addons/leia/script.xbmcbackup/
From your git I see krypton-1.5.4
https://github.com/robweber/xbmcbackup/releases/
What's the last one for Kodi 18?

The Krypton 1.5.4 release is compatible with Kodi 18 as well. It is still Python 2, which is why it wasn't in the official repo. The Kodi 19 version (1.6.6) is Python 3.

So.. feeling like a moron but the problem was I didn't have a backslash at the end of the path... Yeah that killed it.

Thanks for the update.  Not sure if you read through the details in the release but the fix I just pushed was for exactly that issue. Probably happened to a lot of people.

Due to a persistent issue with upgrading Kodi from Leia to Matrix, I've been making regular backups of a clean Kodi Matrix installation.
After Kodi became unusable due to a problem with a plugin, I proceeded to restore the most recent made backup.
It was then that I encountered this issue:

When attempting to restore a backup which included a advancedsettings.xml file, the backup did not proceed upon choosing "Yes" for restoring advancedsettings.xml first.
The plugin gave an error and asked me to refer to the log. (I have no idea how to find that)

Eventually I worked around the issue by manually restoring advancedsettings.xml and simply choosing "No" on the "restore first" question.
Am posting this issue here to raise awareness to it, and perhaps assist in the resolving on the issue.

Should any more information be needed, I'd be more the happy to provide it.
