Very similar to what I had in mind. I also think the version/extra selection for playback should be a simply dialog only, with the management features completely separate.

If XODIDOX is implementing the suggestion we discussed, it is going to work like Movie Sets do. So when you "click" a movie with multiple version it will bring you to a library list with the different versions labeled as per your choice (UHD, Extended, etc.). Management will be handled separately by context menu, as Movie Sets.
For troubleshooting and bug reporting please make sure you read this first (usually it's enough to follow instructions in the second post).

I agree. Credit to @Hitcher I just tweaked his layout slightly. Perhaps the removal of the "Play" button would be better suited. I assumed it was only the GUI for the management of the versions/extras. When playing back a movie with multiple versions a select dialog or a new page display displaying the versions could work. The latter option may be awkward when selecting a movie from a widget.

Updated version with the play button removed, rename button removed (when the user clicks the version an input dialog displays to rename the version) and reduced the add buttons to 1. When in the versions category, it adds a version, when in the extras category, it adds an extra.

Another idea, to make the UI even more minimalist, remove the "Choose art" button and make the movie poster selectable. Clicking the poster presents the user with the ability to change the poster.

Have been following along at a very high level, is there a post that explains how this work and/or any demo videos? I am curious and was long ago very interested in the concept. Wondering how it has been implemented to this point. Content locations, naming conventions, tags, identifiers etc.

Thanks. Still a little unclear about how multiple versions are named but cool to see this feature being worked on. Though I currently use JellyFin to manage my media server and feed to Kodi a a client so unsure if this becomes compatible between the 2 as well.

The discussion of Extras is nice to see though I've not found any current working and supported version of these types of add-ons function as neat and clean as the old defunct version taht still does what I need as I need even with some concession.

I too use and author a media sharing solution.  For this to work with them the addon code which syncs from the sharing solution centralized server will need to be updated to support the new Kodi video database table structures.  That part is likely doable which would allow collections / movie versions to sync from the centralized server to Kodi.  The bigger challenge will be pushing changes made in the Kodi GUI up to the centralized media server (i.e. adding a new movie version).  It is unlikely for that to ever really work without API support on the centralized server and if there is a way for the addon / client to catch the calls with Kodi to trigger an update via the API.  All this means is administration would need to be done via the centralized server, which is likely what happens with most solutions vs. from a client.  I only allow clients to make minor changes like clear the playcount or bookmarks / resume pointers.   MySQL may be the exception here given its architecture.  Jellyfin, Plex, Mezzmo etc..  will have to deal with the items I mention.

This is a great addition for stand-alone Kodi instances but for multiple instances with sharing solutions the mileage will vary.

Thanks,

Jeff
Running with the Mezzmo Kodi addon.  The easier way to share your media with multiple Kodi clients.
Service.autostop , CBC Sports, Kodi Selective Cleaner and Mezzmo Kodi addon author.

If I recall, Jellyfin already has a mechanism for multiple versions (though it's been a bit since I looked into it) but that made complications when pushed to Kodi. JF also has a built in natives method for easily handling extras which has been absent from Kodi forever. I'll keep an eye on this thread to see how things progress.

Edit * Just looking into the way JF handles different versions now and had a thought for BOTH JF and Kodi. If you could have your general movie stardard version set up in a regular folder per usual, then a sub-folder for the different versions you want to include, similar to an Extras folder. Then the ability to access the different versions from a button similar to how this Kodi method seems to and something similar in JF.

Just spitballing ideas while my brain is still functioning here.

@XODIDOX all good? People are cheering for you on the sidelines, don't abandon us! :-)

Jokes aside, I'm eager to test the new implementations, just that.

My simplfied dialog

Struggling with having the Manage part seperate as the PR doesn't seem to give me the necessary controls.

Nice, does the play button need to remain? I'd assume as a user that clicking a version for instance would start playback.

Here's my quick simplified mockup. Pressing left or right on a remote switches between versions/extras. Clicking an edition starts playbacks. Holding down the select button displays a context menu with the option to manage the title OR holding down the select button automatically enters the management mode.
