Are there any news on those fixes Fernet provided being taken into main XBMC git?
I am also suffering from random crashes when starting 1080p mkv h264 content (sometimes also when stopping them) with adjust refresh rate enabled ....

thanks

XBMC crashes random by using refreshrate adjustment...
Ans not only XBMC, my whole Xserver seems to be down.

You have to use the 32Bit version. Wink

I found the solution for me:

The xorg.conf seemed to be the problem:

my xorg.conf looked like this when i got random crashes:

Quote: Section "Device"
Identifier "nvidia"
Driver "nvidia"
Option "NoLogo" "true"
Option "DynamicTwinView" "false"
Option "NoFlip" "false"
Option "FlatPanelProperties" "Scaling = Native"
Option "ModeValidation" "NoVesaModes, NoXServerModes"
Option "UseDisplayDevice" "DFP-1"
Option "ModeDebug" "true"
Option "HWCursor" "false"
EndSection
Section "Screen"
Identifier "screen"
Device "nvidia"
SubSection "Display"
Modes "1920x1080_60_0" "1920x1080_60" "1920x1080_50" "1920x1080_24" "1920x1080_30" "1920x1080_25"
EndSubSection
EndSection
Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "false"
EndSection

what i did is a

sudo nvidia-xconfig

and not it looks like this and 100% stable for now.

I cant say which setting caused the crashes, but now its working fine with 24p mode and autorefresh rate in XBMC.

EndSubSection
EndSection

Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "false"

there is no need for 32 bit as all my other Nvidia Setting were working fine with lucid, xbmc and 32bit + 24p.

Edit: Crashed again today, sucks =/

@FernetMenta

do you expect a problem in XBMC (as u patched it), xorg, nvidia... or both?

My xbmc did not write an crashlog and my screen was like off. Thats why I expected a deeper problem in the Nvidia / Xorg stuff... and updated with xorg edgers and x-swat ppas without advantage.

Only the automatic reconfiguration of the xorg.conf file worked for me.

Okay, have to report this as still not fixed but far much better now, sometimes i can handle it like i want, start up 20 24p movies with no problem but ...

Well, we will see if the fix works for me.

@everybody

workaround is simple of u have a onboard card:

Fix the GPU Memory in Bios to 256MB, i only get this random bug if mem is set to Max or Min.

I decided to checkout FernetMenta's changes yesterday and give them a test on my box. Thank you very much for making these changes, I'm very much looking forward to their merge.

They seem to run fine changing to most frame rates, however I have seen some issues changing to some 24fps files. I'm not sure if this is an issue with my setup or the changes. It's odd though because some 24fps files are fine, but others aren't.

Here is the log information after I tried playing the file. Please let me know if you would like me to provide more of my log, setup info, or anything else.

Just compiled FernetMenta:mainline and I can report that the situation has dramatically improved but I've registered one crash. By mistake I've deleted the xbmc crash log file and to prove that the situation is better, at the moment I'm no longer able to make xbmc crash again with a 24p video!
