[LINUX] ITX Build - Australia :-(
#1
Hey guys,

18 months ago, I set up a dedicated XBMC box. I went all out, fuck the ITX form factor - I needed HDD's.

2 cases later, 20TB of storage in RAID5 and a full case later...I need to start making a more modular setup. I'm using a fractal design case atm, due to the noise reduction properties of it, but I'm looking at relegating this PC to being my server, and building a Linux XBMC ITX machine to run it.

I've gone over a lot of the buying guides, but the hardware simply doesn't seem to be available in Australia. Any kind of ZOTAC board seems impossible to get my hands on, and a search for ITX ION doesn't yield much better.

Any Australians that have put together an ultra tiny HTPC capable of doing 1080p easily? If so, where did you get the parts from?

I have a Zotac ITX setup.

All the parts were purchase from Australia.

Zotac 9300 Wifi. It has the ION chipset and a 775 socket.

I put a 35w Celeron 440 CPU in it.

Got a really cheap case (VERY small).

Most of the parts came from mwave.com.au and pccasegear.com.au.
CPU was cheap from eBay.
Case is a MW-100 from Aywun, this case is only suitable for a 35w CPU as the powersupply is so small (60w?)

This is my main XBMC appliance, with XBMC Live installed onto an SSD. No optical drive either.

All being served with a 6Tb unraid setup.

No wifi, my time and hair are in short supply. I cabled the house with Cat5, and it happily runs gigabit. Can get over 60Mb/sec over it.

My second (family room) setup is a Giada N20 which works perfectly with OpenElec. Again cabled with Cat5.

Can stream 2 x 1080p movies with no problems at all.

I'm a pccasegear fan, they have a nice range of M-ITX Boards, and everything else you need. Cheap Memory have really good priced SSDs and 3.5" HDDs. eBay is a really good source for things like the remote ect. I built my entire server from their site, using the Fractal Design XL with 30TB Memory (only about 2TB used, I lost a lot of media from a certain cyclone in queensland Sad ). I also just built a full M-ITX Case, with parts from PCCaseGear, SSD from Cheap Memory, and Remote from eBay, aside from eBay, all parts arrived within the week, in fact about 3 days.

EDIT: Forgot to mention PCCaseGear do have a nice Zotac Board on the site.

Forgot about umart, although I always compare the price to PCCaseGear, usually fine they are cheaper, but if your are in Brisbane, or somewhere that has umart and don't need postage, they will be cheaper.
