External Subtitles Languages in Movie Library?
#1
Helo. I'd like to ask some questions regarding an issue that has been discussed for more than 3 years, I think. The XBMC library only recognizes internal subtitles, that is, subtitles that are embedded in MKV containers. It does not recognize, apparently, external subtitles, like a SRT or SUB file (which are, actually, widely used).

For more than 3 years some users have not only requested, but simply asked for feedback or answers regarding that issue. This is documented in http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=65001 and also in http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=76220. We have also been told that this is already implemented in XBMC, but the skins need to know how to use the feature. I do not know if this is true, so far this is awaiting clarification.

There are also some patches submitted which seem to address the problem, like this one: http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/9736. This particular patch was divided in 2 parts, one for no-caching of subtitles and the other regarding the external subtitles in library. But surprise, only the first part was, so far, actually implemented.

Having only internal subtitles recognized in the library almost renders that function useless, because probably more than 80% of the people that watch foreign movies or need subtitles for some reason have the subtitles in external files. So far, people who have asked some feedback on this issue received very little help or update.

So my questions are:
- is there really a genuine interest in providing XBMC with such a basic feature?
- is it, somehow, a very hard thing to do? or something of a low priority?
- is this already implemented in XBMC, but not in the skins, or not?
- can we expect this to be implemented in the Eden version or in the new Confluence skin?

Thank you very much for any kind of helpful answer
