buffing problems while using SAMBA.
#1
I have a Win 7 PC I have set up as a server -
I have network wide file sharing.

On my win 7 laptop I have set up XBMC with network folders as my movie files -
The problem is almost every time I load up a video it buffers -
Not for long (a few seconds) maybe 15 or 60 times in a movie - (not HD)

I tested the through put with XBMC file manager and it came in at 1.2/1.3Mb/s -

Has anyone any suggestions -
(I was running 10.1 and upgraded to a nightly build to see if that would work but it hasn't)

Thanks in advance.

Regards
Dave

I am assuming that is wireless?
What kind of router do you have? Older or newer laptop?
Are you able to view larger online videos such as You-Tube?

Server is wireded into the router -
Laptop is wireless connected to same router -
Router is Belkin - F5D8236-4 v3000
The Laptop is less than a year old quite new -
And YouTube video's 720p aren't a problem (although I don't know why that is relevant.)

Thanks Again.

I asked about internet streaming of large videos to try to get an idea if your wireless has enough bandwidth etc to get the data to the laptop to be playable.
It seems that it does via the internet but not via your server to your laptop.
Generally the first place to start is making sure all of your drivers and firmware are up to date. Particularly your wifi driver and your router firmware. From there you can then troubleshoot your settings (router, laptop, and xbmc).
Oh yea, are you able to play the same files from your file server with other media players on your laptop? If so, then xbmc settings are likely culprits.

Could the problem be that the PC im using to share the files does not have enough RAM?
(It currently has 1gb ram)

Honestly, I don't know anything about how RAM plays in with file serving and networking. Having only 1Gb of RAM for Win7 is probably below recommended system minimum requirements. You could increase your RAM for relatively low cost to see if it helps performance. In any case, checking for up to date drivers and making sure your settings are correct is always going to be the first step. ie troubleshooting your network, etc.
Try this, take a file that you have difficulty playing from your server and put it on your laptop an play it from there. Everything play as it should? That might indicate if your xbmc (and or the GPU settings) video settings need adjustment or not.

Yes - I can confirm that xbmc has no problem playing local files - (On the laptop)
The problem is defiantly on the network side -
Thanks again for all you advice -
Ill keep plowing through!

Thx again

there are a lot of possible issue that can cause this, i had a simlar issue and that was caused by my router i changed it for a switch and that resolved the issue

easy way to check if network / server is to take laptop round friends house and steam from there network

p.s my old server was a p3 1000mhz and basic 100meg network and that steamed pure dvds and avi with not issue
