Ok. Looking at the code it's not obvious how this is possible. Can you tell me how to get this error to happen in your script?

Ok. It may make sense for me to put back the TypeError simply for backward compatibility. What do you guys think?

Ok. I talked to a few others and it seems everyone thinks leaving the RuntimeError is the right approach. So for now I'll leave it like it is.
