Linux Video driver, etc.

Hello. I am preparing a HTPC with this hardware:

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_CPU...35M1M_PRO/

and Ubuntu Linux x32 as OS. I have some questions about XBMC:

1) About video driver and performance - with the default Ubuntu installation it seems the playback is very slow and unusable. I installed AMD driver:

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/li...ng=English

It works better, DivX are played at 30-40% CPU load but HD video 720p frequently goes to 100%. I think this is not normal - read user opinions that they play 1080p below 80% CPU. BTW, I test with the default ubuntu player and with VLC. I am not sure what player uses XBMC - something standard or it has own? Is it necessary to do something manually to enable the full graphic acceleration?

2) I read that open source driver exists for E-350. How to install it and it is better than AMD Catalyst?

3) Is there a way to test whether full acceleration is enabled - other than visual test with HD 1080p playback?

4) Is it a problem to use Ubuntu Server instead of Ubuntu Desktop (32 vs 64bit)? Difference in video performance?

Thanks in advance for any help.

In the link above I read "mpeg2/4: not yet enabled in fglrx" - is this strange? What will happen with CPU load if I run mpeg4 clip?
