Issues with new Frodo XBMCbuntu install
#1
I finished the clean install, no issues.

But I cannot get the XBMC media center to come up. I tried both selecting it in the 'Start' menu under Sound and Video and tried to log out and login into XBMC vs. XBMCbuntu

I repeatedly get this error log, apologize for the length: I cut out the end as it was too long

we need a bit more info about your hardware. which board etc...

it's a bit better to post logs in "code"-tags. so they're scrollable an your posting won't become that long. or you use sites like

pastebin.com

or

xbmclogs.com

cheers

What output do you get when you run xbmc at the commandline?

What specs are your machine?

I have never used xbmclogs.com...but here is the URL to what I pasted: http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=25697

My machine is a Dell Dimension 8400: system specs sayTongueROCESSOR..., 80547, PENTIUM 4 PRESCOTT DT..., Pentium 4 Prescott DT, 3.4GHZ, 1 MEGB, 800FSB..., SKT-T, E0
Video is an ATI Radeon HD2xxx I dont recall the exact model. I verified it was ATI to chose the correct XBMCbuntu version...but dont remember beyond HD2xxx
Unsure how to verify the ram...I suspect 2gb

I try to run xbmc at login screen and in the 'start' menu...It switches to the media center logo, then back to ubuntu..does that once or twice before giving up.

I have not tried to run from command line and am not sure how. I am a novice at Linux/Ubuntu...used Windows all my life.

thx

All I can think about is you need the legacy driver and remove your current driver, though I am not a AMD user or am at all familiar with AMD. Your Card HD2xxx is not supported by the current driver, that I know for sure.

This is googled...

Code:
sudo apt-get remove --purge fglrx fglrx_* fglrx-amdcccle* fglrx-dev*

Install legacy driver

Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:makson96/fglrx
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install fglrx-legacy

Yes I suggested that (albeit without the purge first) in this thread http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=150336 and the poster said it didn't work. I don't have the right gear to test it on. Perhaps the purge first will deal with it.

You have to purge the newer fgrlx because they cannot coexist, hence why it may not have worked. I dont have the gear to test with but I remember reading it somewhere.

Also for ATI cards atm you need the XBMC xvba ppa IIRC top link my sig Wink idk what the AMD XBMCbuntu is using anyway as I dont use AMD/ATI gfx.

I tried this and get the same problem. But now my monitor resolution is incorrect..640x480 and no option for higher resolution.

here is my latest log

you didn't install the driver correctly, its still using software rendering:
GL_RENDERER = Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 0x301)

I typed in everything above verbatim. Not sure what could be done wrong. I could repeat it all I suppose.
