No HDMI sound Win 8 AMD machine
#1
Simple set up I use a laptop with Win 8 to stream video to what ever TV I want to connect to via HDMI cable. Netflix, etc etc all work when hooked up by an HDMI cable to the TV's. Cable works, TV's work, HDMI works. I used to use Eden and that worked fine now I can't get sound through the HDMI cable with Frodo. I have set up XBMC in it's most basic I think,
Audio output: Analog
Speaker config:2.0
Audio output device: HDMI
Directsound

Still no sound. I do get an Error saying no pass through device found. I read over a bunch of posts and Wiki on this problem and I can't seem to get it to work.

If this helps it's a Samsung Laptop http://www.staples.com/Samsung-Series-3-...uct_985037
Win 8
AMD E2-1800
AMD high def audio driver
also Realtek HD audio manager

Huh??

You should be configured it as shown here- AMD to LEDTV via HDMI

I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

It is configured that way and still does not work. Only difference is I get an error instead of a pass through device.

I had the same issues on a desktop... now it might not immediately sound the same... but I think it is... I was running dual screen to my TV next to my computer via hdmi with speakers setup on both... I had everything setup the way it should have been... but still was getting no sound on either the desktop or tv... I have since split off the pc to tv only, so I can't duplicate this anymore.

heres what I remember:

- set everything up, then start up xbmc... possibly restart xbmc
- I seemed to have better results when my pc speakers were off (I know... laptop... can't help you there)
-make sure under your playback devices (right click your sound speaker near your taskbar clock) you have the correct hdmi selected and you see sound bars (this seemed to be the issue most times)

I will watch here to see if that helped you out... hopefully it will... if I think of something else I will let you know.

If you have XBMC set to Analog you should have only the Audio Output Device available for selection, is this what you mean?

Can you do a screenshot of the XBMC audio settings and create a debug log with you attempting to play something and copy it to pastebin then post the link here.

There's some screen shots.

BTW I hate laptops and WIN 8 which is what I'm doing this all on. Takes me a while and I would like to keep it as easy as possible.

You might want to un-install Realtek HD audio codec for now, and update your AMD driver from here- AMD Driver Autodetect ....reboot PC to let the dust settle, and select AMD HDMI audio output in Windows control panel, then select Exclusive Mode in AMD HDMI audio output properties.....

You can try to configure Frodo as show below again-

Sounds like my problem... twice now, I turn on XBMC and no sound. Have to restart the computer, play a video file and go into setting and cycle through the audio options until the sound kicks in again for HDMI Direct. Only had FRODO now 3 days so, hoping this won't become a habit.

Similar setup... Win7 with HDMI, direct to a Sony 40" using stereo only 2.0 and the HDMI Direct. Actually setup exactly like the above screen cap.

If you like to switch HDMI input a lot or having un-stable EDID, this "Gefen HDmi Detective Plus" might be your best friend. My friend is a multitasker, and he seems to be very happy with his Gefen adapter....with this adapter, he said that he can switch HDMI input and turn off/on TV without loosing audio connection....

Not me... PC->TV with 1 HDMI cable and nothing else attached, very very simple basic setup for me. Which is why wondering about having to fiddle with the sound options so much the past few days. With EDEN I set up my audio and never touched it again for the entire time I had EDEN and the version before it.

Not sure what's going on as I'm not a dev, but it seems to me it's toggling between Directsound & WASAPI.

Try renaming the guisettings.xml file in your userdata folder, this will default your settings as it's possible something got corrupt in the upgrade from Eden to Frodo. More detail at http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=146911

I am wondering if something got corrupted in the upgrade also I noticed my audio drivers (AMD) were update for me under an Samsung auto update. Samgsung gives me a notice when a new driver is available and I just noticed that got updated around the same time I upgraded to Frodo. I think I need to play around with real tek audio and AMD audio driver. This might get messy and I am not good at making my way around Win 8, I started with DOS and have used windows forever, really since there has been a windows OS and Win 8 is like learning a whole new OS.

Anyone else have an idea without me spending hours of trial and errorHuh The problem is specific to XBMC since my HDMI works for every thing else I really don't want to screw myself out of what is working right now. LOL>
