Hi,
I noticed that on my system with 4GB XBMC will not use a lot of memory while i still get a choppy menu, probably due to loading stuff of the HDD.
Why not check the system for memory and if there is enough found use it to cache at least the menu items.
Even EGP fetching could be useful so we don't get distorted playback , but i am guessing that more for the TV backend folk.
