Hi, just was wondering if anyone else had this problem or knew of a way to fix it. I searched the forums, but couldn't find my exact problem.
I have XBMC on 3 different machines. 1 is an AppleTV 1, 2 is a XBMC Frodo for Windows 7, and 3 is XBMCubuntu Frodo.
I have a Win 7 machine set up as a server with all my media files on, and leave the machine on 24/7 so it is always ready.
I have 0 issues with the AppleTV, and the win 7 machine running Frodo. My issue is with the XBMCubuntu Frodo machine.
Maybe 2 - 3 times a day, it 'loses' connection with the win 7 server machine. I can see all the files, but when I click on one, it says 'file not found, would you like to remove this file?' When I go into VIDEOS, FILES, it says 'invalide source'
I have to go to the win7 server machine, and shut it down, restart it, and then my XBMCubuntu Frodo machine links right back up.
I have tested the other 2 when I can't see the files, and they always stay connected to the win7 server machine.
It's not a huge deal, but what is happening is this. If the XBMCubuntu machine 'loses' connection, and updates the library, I lose all my media files in the database. So when I reboot, I have to update the library, and it has to scan each file over again.
Any help or suggestions would be great, I just rebuilt and did a clean install of Frodo yesterday, added all my files, and everything was there, and when it updated today, it wasn't connected. So I have to go in and have it scan for all my files again today.
Thanks again.

Well for a start don't scan when offline.
Is your buntu machine suspending? There are other threads about smb failing in this case.
Also a debug log may show what is going on.

I have the auto update running every 4 hours. I have no idea when it goes offline unless I try to watch something. The only way to not scan when offline is to diable auto scanning. I would need to play something, verify it was working, and then scan, and since I can lose connection while I am playing something, that doesn't seem like a good solution.
No the buntu machine is never suspended. I found that it was causing to many problem. The problem happens at anytime. I can be watching a movie or tvshow, when it is over, I have lost connection. (it will let me finish my movie, but when I go to pick something else, it isn't there)
I have been reading those other threads about smb failing and databases, but I wasn't able to find any with the same situation with just 1 machine when several were running.
When should I run the debug log? Before or after I lose the connection? or both to compair.

Just turn the auto scanning off until you fix the other problem.
Is it wired or wireless? What is network card? When it stops working, can you still ping? I.E. is the network otherwise working?

It is wired. Its built in to the motherboard - NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI.
I can still ping, can still see the machine, and still access it via ftp, so I assume the network is working just fine.
Is this a problem with just buntu? I am able to install win 7 on it and then XBMC, I just found this was easier since I don't use the machine for anything else other than XBMC, and buntu installs my remote correctly, when win 7 doesn't.
Thanks again.

Well its not a problem I've ever had with ubuntu or any other OS. Looking forward to your logs...

Similar issue. Problem only seems to occur when I transfer files from my Win7 Workstation to the server also running Win7. I can no longer connect to the server with XBMCbuntu. Only fix is to restart the server. By any chance are you running FlexRAID on the server? I thought maybe it was an issue with the software but maybe not.

No I'm not running that software. I haven't been able to find a common cause for mine. Sometimes its after I transfer files, or pause a movie for an extended time, but doesn't seem to have a singular cause.
Same solution here, I must restart the server machine in order to reconnect. And this has only been an issue with the buntu machine.
Hopefully I will have logs posted today. I am adding the files back now, but it usually takes a few hours to scan all the movies and tv shows. As soon as it is finished, I will upload the 'good' log and wait for the error to occur.

Yes I did restart XBMC right after I enabled debugging. That is the crash log with the lost connection. Once the buntu machine lost connection to the win7 machine, i enabled debugging and rebooted, then click in VIDEOS - FILES to show the problem.
I'm not sure what networking errors occurred. I know that the buntu machine only loses connection with the win7 machine I use as a server, it never loses connection with my NAS, and I am able to ping, and connect to it via my mac when it is showing no connection to the same machine on my network.
I'm not sure how to get to a terminal window or anything on the bunta machine to run the code below. I have never had to do anything on that machine other than use XBMC.
Code:
sudo apt-get install pastebinit
pastebinit .xbmc/temp/xbmc.log
And I am sorry for the wrong log, that one is actually from my mac.
