When you go back to PTVL it is already running and the channels are already updated depending on the update schedule you set. It doesnt have to rebuild the channels each time you go to it so it is much smoother using it this way.

Awesome, thanks.

So with Settop box mode what are the drawbacks?
Also, do you put background updating to on/minimum/ or off? And then set how often it updates to automatic?

Keep in mind I am not an expert on this mode so others may have better input concerning its use. Do a search in this thread for it and you should find some good info. When you enable it there is an option to choose a global update time. Also you can control individual channel updates by setting a rule in the channel config tool. I believe when you enable settop box mode it overides the other channel update setting you are referring to.

I think the background update setting determines how it updates when you first start PTVL. It will load the first channel and then create the others in the background if background updates is set to on. I dont think this affects how settop mode works.

Drawbacks? I havent seen any. The one thing is it will continue to play whatever channel you were last on even if PTVL is not pulled up. At least that is how I understand it, so that may be considered a drawback. So if it is a internet stream it will continue to stream it or if it is local content it will continue to access that content. However this doesnt affect using other programs or viewing other videos from your library outside of PTVL.

If any of this is incorrect, someone please correct me.

Here is how it was explained to me... 1916323 (post)

Awesome thanks!

now if I could just get this thing to autotune and figure out why it's not.

Edit: It seems to be related to the internet sources stream. I let it run for a while and then I get an error saying

"Could not download information
Unable to connect to the remote server
Would you like to continue scanning"

When I hit yes, it just stops autotune. Then when I go back into PTVL it has a lot of the channels, but hardly any of the internet ones.

No donor movie channels or anything. Not sure if it matters, but in options it's set to "DONOR" not "COMMUNITY" for source.
FEATURE REQUEST

If you're like me and you use a lot of YouTube channels, playlists etc you've probably noticed that channels come and go, streams go up and down, people move videos, rename playlists etc. PTVL would be nicer if it included a simple log that reports when it is unable to find streams, playlists media etc. Over time you end up with a settings2.xml file that is full of dead entries.

Constantly grooming your channel settings is time consuming and I believe the buildup of dead entries is probably a major source of problems/errors people have getting PTVL to load up quickly and completely.

A simple log, with simple entries, is all that I believe to be necessary. Here is a mock example as I envision it.
Code:
FAILED TO LOAD URcDAxVVt3sasdcxW343eg_A ON CHANNEL 44
FAILED TO LOAD http://feeds.hd-trailrs.net/hd-trailrs ON CHANNEL 47
FAILED TO LOAD PL1jiO7elrh8wCB62k_udj83k5hy AND PL3DsaYTksYAsdcx343gr_D ON CHANNEL 58

If anyone has any suggestions on how they are maintaining a large media collection I'd be interested in hearing them.
Ok, so the community/donor list is broken atm I'm guessing?

if you read the last few pages he mentioned that its more than likely going away. not enough contributions to keep it alive.

I read them and know that. He hasn't said they are though yet.

So i got it to go through after several tries, but it doesn't show the youtube/internet channels. They show up in my PTVmanager, but I get a runtime error when I click on the channels.

So weird....
why does pseudo tv live say "checking other instances" everytime i start it up? it will exit itself the first time its started as well :/ was absolutely fine until i updated to kodi 14.1. when i close it it says "removing file locks" and takes ages, its rendering it pretty much useless
@Reb313
@shinedou

Set-top mode is NOT a background process. It is a feature useful for those who use PTVL 24/7 without switching to other programs, etc.

You need to check your settings. Have you got channel sharing set up accidentally?

Thanks,

So what settings would you recommend for those who wants to not run it as a main program 24/7?

Is this why I keep getting errors when trying to turn on Internet commercials?

Nobody knows until you post a log

I will when I get a chance, but I only have been getting errors when turning on donor only commercial lists and building channels, without them turned on, no errors. Just assumed that was the case. I can post logs later on when I get a chance.
