I'm not a dev so take my opinion with a grain of salt and don't blame me if it doesn't work out for you.
With that said, it's really a gigantic performance boost over Frodo for me as far as video playback over a LAN is concerned. With Frodo playback (using NFS over gigabit Ethernet) would take at least 5 seconds or so to start (sometimes much longer). Now it usually starts in less than 1 second. And I have yet to have a video get choked up (a regular occurrence on Frodo).
My setup is very simple. I have a Mint Linux server that houses my shared MySQL video library as well as the video files themselves. On this server I keep XBMC with the Watchdog addon running. My ATV2 clients have no additional addons, and I don't use music or pictures.
