MUSIC - Album thumb nail retrieval?
#1
Big Grin
hi all,

so far no one has been able to help out with my previous post - so thinking that i wont be able to get back the links for my 500+ album thumbs .....

(previous postsSmile
http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/cgi-bin....t=19881

is there a way that i can get xbmc to retrieve all the thumbs for the music folder via a batch mode retrieval ... ie set and forget, instead of doing each one manually ..... (lets assume that the majority of albums already have id3 tags and it can find the unique album).

any ideas?

thanks again.

huh? what are you trying to do? do you see thumbs in files view, but not in library view? or the other way around?

you know how you can retreive the album information (ie get the track listing, and a bio on the album etc).

well i did that for all my albums ... and when i changed it to the thumb view, instead of seeing blank folders - i saw a picture of each album.

but when i did a "scan", and selected "no - just add new tracks" ... it did something weird and must of deleted the references to the thumbs from the database file (my guess) ... as all folders dont have thumbs anymore, they just appear as plain folders (hence all the album info is lost too).

so, i'm trying to restore those references .... i check in the apps\xbmc\albums\thumbs folder and i can still see all of the thumbs, so i know they haven't been deleted.

i think its the database file that has changed .....

please let me know if you need further info/clarification....

thnx

interesting. that shouldnt have happened. did you upgrade in between the scannings? it may have been a db upgrade that mangled it.

gotcha. you could manually restore the thumb references in the database but it'll be very difficult. you'd be better off copying the cached .tbn thumbs and using them as folder.jpg files. of course, this assumes that your files view is laid out nice and clean where each album is in its own folder. if not, you could embed the image into your tags.

yes, i think i did upgrade in between. i notice that when i restore my old db files, it automatically says that "upgrading old database".

damn .... :bomb:

yes, each album is in its own folder, all the tags are complete.

i'm new to this, can you provide me with some examples of:
1. how to copying .tbn thumbs and using them as folder .jpg files?
2. how to embed images into tags?

many thanks in advance.

ftp into your xbox, and copy them over. be sure to rename them all as jpg so you can look thru them with any image viewer. move them as you look thru them so you know whats what. (remember they are named like a34ddf5.tbn). once you move the file into the appropiate album folder, rename it as folder.jpg. also check, in the temp folder too.

try google. there are many apps which will do this.

this doesn't work for me.

my folder is called "kylie - ultimate kylie".
the coresponding thumb is called "a34ddf5.tbn".

1. i copy "a34ddf5.tbn" into the root directory of "kylie - ultimate kylie" folder.

2. i then change "a34ddf5.tbn" into "kylie - ultimate kylie.jpg"

3. i reboot and still can't see the thumb.

i'm a n00b ..... Image

... am i doing anything wrong?

thnx again

rename "a34ddf5.tbn" to "folder.jpg" and place it in the "kylie - ultimate kylie" folder.

thats all to it.

ahh ... i see .... now i understand what you guys mean.

i tried this and it only seems to work for some folders ....

is it supposed to work for all the folders? is there a script that i can check to see if it's picking them up correctly?

i've also
1. deleted all my thumbs (after a backup to my pc's hdd)
2. deleted the old db files (after a backup to my pc's hdd)

then reopied the folder.jpg into the album folders .....

i'm wondering does it matter how the files are named in that folder ....

thanks again guys
