Linux ChromeBox Kodi E-Z Setup Script (LibreELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2017/02/21]
Trick or Treat!

posted a workaround on the wiki for the high fan speed on resume from suspend on OE 5.95+. Still investigating the root cause to see if a firmware change is required, but this will do for now

So nobody else had kernel panics on boot with kernel 4.2.0-16 on Ubuntu 15.10 64bit and a Chromebox? Is anyone else running that configuration with no problems? Or do most of you guys run OpenELEC?

4.2.0 no one running kodi ever tested. OE will ship with 4.1.x and Braswell chips need 4.3.x - so I fully skipped 4.2.x on all my systems.

I upgraded all my machines to 15.10 some days ago but replaced the kernel with 4.3-rc7 right away.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Reports are that 4.3 fixes the problem. If Braswell needs it I guess Ubuntu will be shipping it out soon enough.

I elected to simply boot with my old 15.04 kernel, 3.19.0-31, which worked fine, rather than bothering with getting a mainline kernel upgrade. Just surprised that more people haven't had the same problem, which made me suspect that maybe I was doing something wrong.

Looks like it did the trick for me, thanks.

you need to boot with 'acpi=off' as a kernel parameter with Ubuntu 15.10/4.2. I just found this out the other night myself.

this. the first post and wiki are up to date with everything you need. All issues/resolutions etc in the 360-some pages this far have been captured in the wiki, and the instructions continually refined.

Aha! Thanks, will give it a shot.

Edit: Worked great, thank you!

For the lurkers, simply add "acpi=off" to the end of the commandline default line in /etc/default/grub like so:

Code:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nomdmonddf nomdmonisw nomdmonddf nomdmonisw acpi=off"

then run "update-grub" and reboot.

Matt, this should probably be added to your wiki page. I'm happy to do it if you want, don't want to step on your toes.

Turning off ACPI is kinda like killing a fly with a sledgehammer. I'd prefer it be used temporarily just to boot/install and the new a fixed/working kernel installed. But if you want to throw it up there for now that's cool

doh, thank you... I'll get started reading.

I'm current running an amazon fire stick and I also have some kind of a box with "MX" on it, tried them both from time to time. ... with these two I am very disappointed with picture clarity (quality) and I'm looking for something better..

Am I heading in the right direction?

An Intel GPU coupled with the new OE EGL/development builds are pretty much the best you'll find. My setup script will be getting updated with OE 6.0 final later tonight, and have the EGL dev version as an option as well.
