Auto-detect speaker setup (2.0 - 5.1)
#1
Is there a way to make XBMC auto-detect the kind of currently connected speakers from the control panel?
I swap between 3 set of speakers (5.1, 2.0, 2.1) and headphones and I have to change the output settings manually every single time. Is there a way to make this automatically?

You can toggle the settings via jsonrpc

I have automated the process, but this is only because my avr has network capability.

Hmm.. I'm not running xbmc all the time and thus jsonrpc is not available when I'm switching devices. Is there a setting in an ini file that I can change from a batch file / my own automation program?

nevermind found out:

"C:\Users\vrok\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\userdata\guisettings.xml" "<channels>8</channels>" "<channels>2</channels>"

8 = 5.1
2 = 2.0

I used to use that method but that won't work when xbmc is running, at least it didnt with Linux and xbmc 12
