I'll try to explain in more detail...
With the default layout (not smaller posters) the space given to each poster is 1.5 times the width equals the height or the standard 1000x1500 movie poster size. TV Shows use a different standard so they may be slightly more off than that...
Smaller poster layout is not even with that aspect ratio so the scale tag was scaling the image to fill that 12 pixel gap cutting off some of the poster image in the process. I personally do not like the image cutoff like that especially when the posters and the text on them are so small.
Personal preference so if you like it the other way then do what works best for you
