I think that the problem lies with the way Kodi updates skins.
I have seen this many times with the Titan skin where if the skin is in use when it gets updated, the screen will go black for a long period of time and you don't know what is going on. It was actually one of the reasons i switched my family back to Aeon Nox 5: Silvo... Titan skin was being updated too often! lol
As an experienced user and someone who leaves all his machines on 24/7, it usually is not a problem for me as i just figure the skin is updating or it happens when i am not in front of it.
But for users like my parents and cousins who use Kodi mainly for the PleXBMC add-on to connect to my Plex server, they have no clue what is going on.
If you load Kodi and are ready to watch TV and suddenly the screen goes black, your first instinct is to press the remote/keyboard left, right, click OK, etc...
So i have no problems believing that people pressed OK to something they didn't see. It would be nice if Kodi would warn you that the skin you are currently using is being updated and the screen may go black and to just be patient. That would take care of the panic people feel when they think stuff is not working
