Hi!
I am still using Gotham. I am using Easytag to tag all my
music files. Easytag also touches the parent folder.
However XBMC still shows the old Tags. It does not seem
to recognize the changes made. Other programs
(Poweramp on Android, or Clementine on Linux) recognize
the new tags. I already did a library update. The only
way is to purge the whole library and build a new one.
That is no solution, as it takes a very long time.

In Library view open Context menu on an album and try "Query info for all albums" I believe that scans for changes to anything existing.

A library update should reflect any tag changes. Is it possible you have embedded MBID tags in those files are not being changed? Are both ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags being corrected?

Check also whether "Override song tags with online information" is on in Settings -> Music -> Library
