I have a dedicated windows HTPC running xbmc. It has served me faithfully for a couple of years.
Details about my setup:
XBMC 13.2
Windows 7 SP1 64-bit
CPU: Intel® Core i3-2120T CPU @ 2.60GHz
GPU: AMD HD4650
8 GB RAM
SSD local OS drive
Media streamed from server via SMB shares connected with Gigabit network.
Connected with HDMI to my Panasonic 42" plasma
Desktop Resolution: 1920x1080 32Bit at 50Hz
Suddenly, at about two weeks ago using XBMC became unberable. I have constant bufferings pausing playback.
I have verified that my shares are not the problem, it's a dedicated zfs server with a lot of processing and performance headroom, just for fun i verified that i could at least start 6 separate streams of raw Blu-ray rips using VLC from this server without any issues så streaming a compressed episode of "Louie" should compare to idle.
From my non-expert view of logfiles it seems to me like it is somehow audio troubles causing buffering.
I have a fairly simple setup, hdmi connected to my Panasonic plasma, audio is two channel analog going from my plasma to a simple a two channel amplifier.
After searching for a loong time after other problems i found a hint that audio might be the reason for my trouble.
A wiki here at KODI states that AMD users should use WASAPI and AMD HDMI as output and not WASAPI and Realtek HDMI like I was currently using. (A bit unsure about why this had worked before, or if it hade magically changed).
Anyhow, it seemed to work, I could watch an entire episode of homeland, skip back and forth, everything was smoothe again
But, the day after, same settings, buffering was back again Tried every other audio output, but to no avail.
Finally I even plug a mini jack right into my pc, configured it correctly in windows, selected this as my output in xbmc, and still, no dice !!! XBMC was still buffering.
Any thoughts or insights is highly appreciated. I am seriously considering both upgrading the OS on my box to win 8.1(was planning to wait for 10), updating from XBMC 13.2 to Kodi RC but since I have a centralized library with mySQL I am a bit hesitant about the "one way upgrade".
