Need some strategy/opinion for software selection.

I have WMC on a Windows 7 computer that has never crashed and retested today, so tuner is solid. The TVH computer, gives, “lost connection”, mostly on boot and changing stations. For 7 wks. I have tried every possible way to get this thing to work. Yesterday I tried what was successful for someone but destroyed the stations.

That provides a field general's input opportunity. Goal is to get a very stable system where connections are not lost and everything in one box. I noticed folks having success with a clean re-install of software, others successful by going back to their earlier Kodi and TVH that worked for them before upgrade, others switched back to MythTV that they were attempting to leave, while others had success going forward and others better matching one of the addons to their other versions, while others went back to WMC claiming it just works so they can do without TVH great features and yet others used a different front end.

Operating system OE 5.0.0 and pvr 1.9.39 for 6 weeks and 0.9.8 for this week. HDHR3 Prime tuning Qam.

Give me the most successful software combination for a working installation. I suspect that those that follow the posts and see what software is working well, probably because it shows up less with problems, know that answer.

Thanks,
Deskbound

Try latest OE 5.0.6, works very stable for me on two computers.

Mythtv 0.27.4 on Ubuntu backend, openelec latest on frontends. Stable for months if not years.

I thank both of you greatly for your response. I'm trying to do both, Mythbuntu/0.27.4 and openelec frontend. See a couple problems. Can only record one channel at a time with HDHR prime according to Mythtv chart.

Also did a tuner channel scan and found only two, TVheadend found about 10. I guess that can be dealt with by adding an OTA tuner and may give me multiple record. I'll continue working on it.

Thanks again,

One channel per tuner I think. There are three tuners in there IIRC.

Thanks nickr, I believe I get all the stations. In HDHR scan, I clicked on “programs” for both stations and saw the rest distributed among the two and played them.

I assume I am to enable pvr MythTV addon in OE and stick in the computer IP address in its configuration. I have OE on an SSD drive and MythTV/ubuntu on an HD in the same case. I saw this link http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php/Mounti...ork_shares

CFIS method shows /storage/.config/system.d/storage-music.mount

I have the file /./storage/config/system.d/cifs.mount.sample that has the identical script.

I assume I rename it “storage-music.mount” and change the IP to the computer IP?

[mount] options has “username”. I think I was only given a password option when setting up the back end so is this OE's ID and Password?

Finally it says to enable with this command. "systemctl enable storage-music.mount". I assume that is from the command line and not part of the script and why I need to rename the file from “sample” to “storage-music.mount”? Do I run that command from this directory or root?

Thanks for helping the TV challenged.

I am confused now. You have OE and Ubuntu on the same computer?

You can't run them both at the same time then? You'll need to, but you can run ubuntu and have both mythbackend and kodi running at the same time. You don't need to mount anything with the pvr setup.

Or have I completely misunderstood you?

My bad, I didn't mention my hardware objective: boot on small SSD so user gets quick TV response and store recordings on big HD both in same computer case. Also would like second TV to connect to the system, but that is not a deal breaker.

By the way, where is the "thank user" button you refer to at the bottom of your post?

So which operating system are you using?

"Mythtv 0.27.4 on Ubuntu backend, openelec latest on frontends."

Therefore I assumed Mythbuntu on HD and OE on SSD. Boot OE.

OK well you don't need to mount anything. Set it up and away you go.

Can you point me in the right setup direction. I notice you have answered this in part in other forums but this is somewhat different and the other folks were way, way smarter than me. In the backend and frontend settings I used 127.0.0.1 . For backend, the Local backend IPv4, IP Master backend, and for Frontend the Pvr backend IP address as instructions say. I get already in use when I test the installation. Should one of those be the computer IP address on the network?

What I found is when leaving the backend config module it ask for me to click OK to start the backend back up however if I click cancel so in theory no backend is started and then go to the terminal and run that log above I get no bound errors and everything checks out fine with the proper ports working. So it seems even though I don't click to start it still starts 1 backend and I get a clean log. If I do click to start obviously I then get two backends.

Is there some job or way to kill one of the backends during boot before it starts looking for ports?

If you are running myth on one machine and the frontend on another, you cannot use 127.0.0.1. You have to use the ethernet IP address. This goes into the mythtv-setup programme in two places in the general panel.
