So I posted the following question in a BubbleUPnP forum and it seems the issue may lie with how Kodi handles .strm files.

The dialogue was as follows:

I have BubbleUPnP server running and able to browse its libraries via the android client, but none of my video players seem to support .strm.

I've tried the Kodi client but whenever I try to send the .strm to it nothing happens.

.strm is a non standard format invented by XBMC / Kodi. When being browsed via UPnP, for an item,
it should send the URL contained in the strm rather than a link to the strm, so it can play anywhere.

That is true but it seems none of the media players I tried are able to play the http streams for some reason.

I first get "Warning: Failed to retrieve video info" and then when I choose MX Player Pro for an example, I get "Can't Play this Link" on everything. I do see thumbnails in BubbleUPnP but that's about it.

You should rather report to Kodi to stop exposing http links pointing to a .strm that nobody supports, and rather expose the http link contained in the .strm file
(strm is just a text file containing an URL).

I'm not that technically inclined when it comes to programming, but maybe some people here can add to this and a possible solution may come out of it?
