Windows 10: How to install Windows Media Center Tutorial
#1
I've been holding off upgrading my HTPC to Windows 10 due to the loss of Windows Media Center. However, there is now a solution to getting it restored under windows 10 as outlined in the link below:

http://www.windowscentral.com/install-me...windows-10

As long as the WMC plugin is Windows 10 compliant I figured this would be the way to go but I'm not sure anyone would have any reason to test it until now.

No sooner did I post this and the server has overloaded from too many requests - the page is trending pretty hard on facebook. If you cant get to the WMC zip contents it has been mirrored here:

Wow. I admit I was going to try to figure out how to do this (procrastination: always a good strategy). I plan on trying this soon.

If it works, there is no reason why ServerWMC/pvr.wmc won't work with it too. Although I can image some installer confusion we may need to address.

Yes i also wondered if it would be possible to just shove the WMC binaries onto a win10 system, register them, install the windows services etc. I also was planning to try it "one day" but at the same time figured some smart people would probably get to it first Smile When i get home tonight im going to pick apart this zip file and the scripts to doublecheck whether the files are direct copies from an earlier windows or have been modified etc, also to look in the scripts and ascertain eactly what it's doing

Just tried setting it up and thought it was going to work until it came to Cable Card activation where the code is invalid ;(

I couldn't get the guide data either, apparently guide data is only working for people who get the guide through their tv signal (and as near as I can tell, that's not working well). I was able to get playready installed and get to cable authentication - but I didn't bother trying to go further since I don't pay for premium channels. Looks like there is more work to do on this.

I wonder if the source is using Zap2It rather than the new provider. Maybe the binary is the older one and not the newer one.

Nevermind, I started following the my digital life thread and see whats going on now:

I'm still yet to try here but in Australia the Epg is over the air so sounds like it may work. The only time having the non digital download Epg has been beneficial, lol

v3 of the installer allows me to now download the guide, enabling me to finish tv signal setup. Unfortunately the spare pc I installed this on won't play start a live-tv stream, it says it says the monitor fails hdcp (and it very well might). Tomorrow I'll install on my SP3.

@Krusty I'm stuck at the same place with V3 files. I'm installed on an old laptop that at one time had a working Windows 7 Media Center
