Affordable kodi + game emulator device?
#1
Just looking for a device that I can plug into my TV, runs kodi without much fuss, and is also capable of running emulators. Preferable for under $100 USD. Any suggestions?

I'm currently considering building one using a Raspberry Pi 2, but I'd rather just be able to buy something that's ready to go out of the box.

What consoles are you looking to emulate as that will dictate how much power you need.

Oh noes, I have to put an SD card in the Pi!

But seriously, if that's too much then grab yourself a Nexus Player.

Also, anything + Kodi "without fuss" does not exist. There is no solution that just works out of the box. They all require you to do some work on the software side.

Throw CPU/GPU power at the problem if you don't want much fuss with emulation.

I'd be happy with 16 bit era and below. But N64 would be great.

So the choice is PC or Nvidia shield really? I've looked at Nvidia Shield, it's too expensive and I already have a current gen gaming console (too bad I can't just mod my PS4). Also I don't really trust android for running kodi or emulators, I've seen a lot of complaints about android devices being sluggish and freezing.

Which brings me to PC. Any suggestions? Would the Pi be a good option, or would getting a cheap used laptop work better?

Adding kodi to a Pi is really as easy as putting a SD card in? I thought using the Pi required coding experience? I'm going to look at the nexus player as well, but I think it's an android device. But my bias against android devices may be unjust?
