Depends what YOU mean by "4K"? Understand that resolution only covers one thing when talking "4K Ultra HD" definition, as you related high-end capabilities you might want.

Short answer is if you got a "Ultra HD" certified television then you preferably want a computer/player/device with HDMI 2.0a output to get the most out of your new TV.

Long answer is that most other capabities are covered by the official "Ultra HD" specification and cerification from the UHD Alliance.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra-high...television

Example:
Hardware decoding of 2160p HEVC (H.265) at 60 FPS (frames per second).
Hardware decoding of 2160p VP9 at 60 FPS (frames per second).
2160p at 60 Hz or higher output to HDMI 2.0 or HDMI 2.0a
10-bit color space (color depth) and HDR (High Dynamic Range) output

tv will most likely be the panasonic tx50cx802b
http://www.richersounds.com/product/tv--...tx50cx800b

but am still undecided, hopfully the price will drop by the end of the month when the new model is released.

i could just get a 1080p oled and use my existing setup for playing the films, but think i will be missing out.

are there any laptops available now with hdmi 2.0 / a
or would i have to build a pc / media centre

idealy will want to play uhd iso's when available
thanks

There are currently VERY few PCs - laptops or desktops - with HDMI 2.0 output (and even fewer with 2.0a required for HDR). Some graphics cards are beginning to feature it, and there are finally some Displayport to HDMI 2.0 solutions appearing (as many more PCs have DP 2160/60p outputs than HDMI 2.0 equivalents)

It's still a waiting game as far as UHD and 4K is concerned. I wouldn't hold your breath for UHD Blu-rays being as easy to rip as current Blu-rays either. They will have incorporated new encryption on the new discs, and I don't know if there will be a PC playback solution this time around.
