Xiaomi 4K HDR 'Mi Box' (Android TV set-top box)
Recently bought one of these. Very pleased with it but just noticed that the bluetooth seems to be permanently discoverable/visible. Expected that would only be the case whilst it was in pairing mode.

Would love to know if there's a way to fix this, as I live in an apartment complex and have been kicked out of apps a couple of times by neighbors (accidentally, one assumes) attempting to pair with my box!

Thanks for any input.

I play 720p videos without any matter, even if torrent are downloading same time and if I'm using local ftp over the WiFi.

I have a Panasonic 70 inch Z series Plasma (last of the breed), with which I am very happy. 1080p videos play very well. 4K does not interest me if it means having to change my TV. Its hard to get a picture reproduction that I can get on my 70" Plasma. I watch my movies through a 4GB unpowered portable HD which is connected to an unpowered 4 point USB hub. That hub has a 32GB USB added storage, connector for mouse also. The spare connection is used for sideloading Apps.

The Mi, was a replacement for my WDTV Live Hub, which I still find, in some respects, superior to the Mi Box, because its simpler, plug and play. However, the Mi is far more versatile and a solid performer. But for my Grandfather the Hub is much simpler and has 1GB of storage.

Personally, the only nitpick I have with Mi Box is the Android TV interface and lack of "straightforward" App downloads. But that's just mer.

Where´s the update, we all are waiting for?
At the moment, this box ist absolutely useless for me. 23.976fps (nearly every movie i have) leads to stutter every 30 seconds. It doesn´t matter if you use "HDMI adaption" or not. I´m using 4K 24p resolution.
It´s even more noticable on 4K playback. Xiaomi, shame on you not implementing 23.976fps, it would be enough for the moment to switch it manualy, but no way. That sucks!
Good hardware, but absolutely junk software. Despite the stutter issue, there are many other bugs...

I removed this box from my setup and use my "old" FTV2 again, wich by the way works flawless, thank´s to autoframe switching.

Sounds like someone has not done their pre-purchase product research. No refresh rate switching is a well known issue.

Have you contacted Xiaomi to express your displeasure or returned the device ? Wink

Lack of refresh rate switching is one thing. Not having support for 23.976 is another... (Using sync playback to display is an option - but only if you don't mind losing bitstream/passthrough ?)

Last november they tweeted "early Q1" which have past now, and their Twitter account been dead a couple of months now.

https://twitter.com/XiaomiUSA/status/801075881238151168

...or bar that, Android TV 7.1 for that matter if they are planning to skip over the 7.0 version for Xiaomi Mi Box?

My main reason for wanting the update is Swedish voice remote control (Google Assistant) for the family.

Mi.com support and FAQ gives no answers http://www.mi.com/en/support/MiBox_FAQ/

Being made in partnership with Google one would have expected it to get Android TV 7.0 (Nougat) sooner rather than later.

https://www.android.com/tv/xiaomi-mi-box/

So far I however only know of Nvidia Shield TV getting an official release of the Android TV 7.0 (Nougat) version.

I know that. But they tweeted: "early Q1" and not 'late Q1'.

I am just saying that "early" Q1 have come and gone.

It can be considered 'middle' Q1 for a few more days, then 'late'.
Still no news about an official Android TV 7.0 (Nougat) release for Xiaomi Mi Box? It is deffinitly 'late Q1' now.

Well, at least Google too have said that Android 7.0 Nougat is coming to Xiaomi Mi Box

The update to Android 7.0 Nougat should include Google Assistant on Android TV with Actions on Google

Interesting. Thought Nougat would not come to the Mi Box due to a lack of OpenGL ES 3.1 support.

@wrxtasty
noggin just said it...
I´m not crying about lack of refresh rate switching, but no support for 23.976fps on a media device is ridiculous

I could be wrong, but I do not interpret the first link to necessarily mean that Nougat is coming to the Mi Box. Perhaps they intend to just port the feature to Androi TV's running 6.0:

In the coming months, the Google Assistant on Android TV will come to the NVIDIA SHIELD, along with all Android TVs in the US running Android 6.0 Marshmallow or Android 7.0 Nougat, such as the AirTV Player, Sharp Aquos, Sony Bravia, Xiaomi Mi Box, and more.

New driver released? Wow Big Grin

Any news regarding refresh support?

Well Refresh Switching works for Marshmallow S912 MINIX U-9 and on the soon to be released MM Firmware for the S905 WeTek Hub.

I'm sure Xiaomi know about the required Refresh Switch MM patches. They may elect to go straight to Android Nougat for some Netflix 4K HDR Lovin' and Android TV Live Channels - Networked Tuner action.

Who knows.

Well the first link I posted show Xiaomi USA Tweeted a reply revealing that they did at least plan to release Android 7.0 for Xiaomi Mi Box in Q1 2017

https://twitter.com/XiaomiUSA/status/801075881238151168

"we're looking to release that as an update early Q1 next year."

I hope Xiaomi releases an update right away correcting that, but I'm happy with Mi Box anyway.Smile

Those is DEVELOPER MODE.

To enable developer mode go to Settings > About > Press Build 7 times. You will receive a message on-screen that you are now regarded as a developer...
