Album Art - Thumbnail problems
#1
Hello Kodi Community,

This is my first post here. First off, I must thank everyone who's contributed for making such a great piece of software, and for keeping it open!

I have been using Kodi v.16 on win7 for a few months now. And it has been working great for streaming my movie and tv show library via http. I love how it scrapes for artwork and information!

My next step is to try and get my music library into Kodi and I've been having issues with the Album art not showing up.

I have followed the guides and have run the music through musicbrainz first and tagged it all. The album art shows up in musicbrainz properly. And all the id's are present and saved.

When I then add the newly musicbrainzed files there is no album art showing up!

I figured I must be doing something wrong, so i've tried a number of things. I have read about having folder.jpeg and image.tbn files in the folders. I've tried that and it's not working for me.

I've noticed that in some cases, and I can't figure out why, the thumbnails do show up, but only 1 or 2 percent of the albums have this. I've analyzed these folders to see if there's anything

unique about them, but they are the same as the others that don't have the artwork. In Kodi I can go into each album and get info and then add the thumb manually and it it will then work. But this would

take too long to do manually. I have also noticed that if I add a folder with a few albums in it and don't add it to the library some album art shows up, but then when I add those albums into the library the

thumbnails then disappear! If I then get info on the album, the thumbnail appears in the window but won't be remembered until i actually click the get thumb button and manually select the same thumbnail file!

I think this must be a bug? as from what I understand the musicbrainz step should just make this work properly?

this is happening on windows7 as well as on mac os 10.10 using Kodi v.16.

thanks for any help or advice.

Bug
I'm in the exact same situation as brucifer here. I've tested this using v16 and the new v17 beta and they both do the same. I've also been able to confirm the same behaviour on Android as well. So this must be a global issue, and not user specific.

I would love to see this resolved somehow.

Make sure its "folder.jpg" without the "e".

Hi Helta,

I can confirm that 'folder.jpg' is how I have it currently.

thanks

The file path where the tracks and folder.jpg is:

Web server directory (HTTP)/Music/Artist/Album/Tracks

First of all read this http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=283528, another user with album art issues that was solved.

Also this http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=...pid2351499 could be pertinent.

I am assuming that neither of you have album artwork embedded in the music files (one place that Kodi gets the images). Next is locally held art - Kodi will fetch folder.jpg in the album folder as the album art. It expects the album folder to be the common folder holding all the music files for the songs tagged with the same album name. Or if you use a scraper then Kodi will fetch album art from online sources. But the scraper needs to be able to identify the album - using musicbrainz id tags helps with that process.

I would suspect that both of you need to check your scraper settings, and use "update library" and "Query Info for all albums" a few times (need both in v16 due to bug). Also the album node gets cached, so you may not see the art immediately. After fetching art you may need to go off the album node and back in order to see the results.

But fundamentally album art in v16 does work for most people. So if after all the above you still have issues then please provide a debug log.

Just to add, it could also be skin related. With many skins, to get music artwork to show correctly, you have to define the path to your music library within the skin settings somewhere. All the Aeon MQ skins for example require this, otherwise a lot of the artwork just doesn't show as the skin doesn't know where to find it.

Same problem here. Using Arctic Zephyr and Kodi 17 Beta 3 (20160921).

@fischgourmet could you switch skin to Confluence and see if the problem persists.

Hi Dave,
I have tested with the album art embedded and also have run the media thru musicbrainz, using confluence skin and I still am seeing the same results. I will go thru the threads you have noted above and try anything listed in there to see if it solves the problem, and post an update.
thanks

If embedded art isn't showing either then that is really odd. Makes me wonder about a corrupted textures database? Using Confluence can you put some albums with embedded art in the songs in a folder and add it as a new music source. Scan this to the library. Do those album images show?

I seems to have something to do with the http source. If I connect to my network drive via SMB the artwork appears right away!

I will continue to test but the http connection seems to be the problem.

I have done further testing and can confirm that with SMB it works perfectly. The only problem is the SMB is so much slower than HTTP source. Will test some other network protocols and see if the same problem exists.
What would cause this issue using HTTP source?

thanks
